The thing that often blows by is not only is crime the lowest its been for any non-senior citizen's life, it has been roughly that safe for *fifteen years*. We have had fifteen years of steady, low crime while the irrational freakout over crime has relentlessly grown to a fevered, disordered pitch.

Crime is literally lower than it has been in the entire life of every single non-senior-citizen American. If you are under age 65 you have never lived at a time with lower property crime rates, lower violent crime rates or lower homicide rates. Never.

Brian Schatz @brianschatz · 21h This is worth reading. I agree it is impossible to justify the govt action then. In Hawaii during Covid, for a time, the bars were open and the schools were not. The smart response to this, however, isn’t to put someone in charge who will cause measles to make a comeback. Quote Sean T at RCP @SeanTrende · 22h The damage done by this is incalculable. Brian Schatz @brianschatz · 21h I know what you meant and I’m glad this is a constructive exchange. According to conservatives, American cities burn down on the regular. The level of delusion among their dupes is amazing.

Just deflect. Just lie. That plan is a heist, the votes won't matter, just keep stalling until we can spring the trap.

The last 2 weeks have seen many articles clearly stating Trump has taken US into some state of authoritarianism, even dictatorship, some by indie journalists, but also, major international media. Today on 1A, Germany’s Frankfurter Allgemeine & Spain’s La Vanguardia. 🧵 www.faz.net/aktuell/poli...

Trump's Power Test Soldiers are now marching through America's capital. It's a visible symbol of what's currently happening on many levels: the country's authoritarian transformation. There's barely any public protest against all this. No widespread resistance is forming. Americans are just returning from vacations they spent in Florida, California, or the Rocky Mountains. Many haven't followed in detail what's been happening in recent weeks. Many simply don't want to. Constantly talking about politics, following the latest Trump scandal every day? The left-liberal news channels are having ratings problems. People are tuning out. School starts again at the beginning of September, after Labor Day. Before that, Americans invite friends over, have barbecues, and show vacation photos. And if you're not tuning in to CNN and MSNBC, or if you don't happen to witness ICE agents raiding the local hardware store where day laborers from Latin America are waiting for work, you can still enjoy a sundowner on your porch in Washington. Was this roughly what it felt like for many Germans who strolled around Wannsee in the summer of 1935 and then drank Berliner Weisse in the beer garden?

This is a great time to remind everyone that EOs aren’t laws, the federal government doesn’t manage voting in this way, and it’s all a scare tactic and any reporting that doesn’t provide that context is enabling potentially lawless activity.

Counterpoint: yes, it does. Eugenics and fascist politics have been intimately linked for a century. It would be weird to not see them not driving each other once in power.

The gall to let a source dissemble like this. There’s nothing stopping four day work weeks now. Europeans with strong labor unions are getting them. Tech companies pushing AI are cutting staff instead. It’s all part of the con.
