Nobody deserves either fate, BUUUUUT, also, they kinda contributed to the conditions that made it happen, so 🤷🏻♀️

It also costs more through apps. Which burns my buns.

I can psychically deduce that the culprit has paws and probably fur, and you will forgive them swiftly.

Well, yeah. He’s absolutely correct on this specific topic.

Individualistic solutions for systemic problems; it’s the Republican Way!

Speaking as a pretty similar autistic adult who had to learn to make facial expressions, yeah, he knows. We aren’t always great at expressing, but there’s plenty going on behind the blank face. If he’s independent and cognitively competent enough for college, he knows what he’s doing.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
He’s an adult now. He’s in college. He’s not helpless or ignorant. So yes, he deserves his share of the blame just as much as Don Jr, Eric, and Ivanka.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Ugh. It’s so ugly. Pure proof that money doesn’t buy taste.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Please excuse me, I’m going to go dig a grave to lie in until I can face this.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
To be totally honest, I don’t think there are enough of us to fill the Boomers’ shoes. We are a very tiny generation compared to the ones on either side, and our elders are hanging on to power. I think influence is going to skip us and go straight to the Millennials. Which I’m fine with,
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
It looks like an oval to me. Which would be consistent with the rumor that he abuses Adderall. That looks like a 10mg instant release tablet.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Yup. That’s the exact color and shape of the ones in my bottle right now.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
What she describes are the textbook symptoms of a panic attack, though. 🤷🏻♀️
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Those are failures of systems. In a better world, we’d let the ones incapable of living independently have a safe place to do whatever it is that makes them happy. Same for all disabilities.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
I am an autistic adult, and I know why. Because my dad is. And his dad. And probably generations of slightly eccentric engineers going back through time whether they were diagnosed or not.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Employment at most hospitals also requires these. I had to get my Hep B when I got my first job post graduation, because they weren’t giving it to infants when I was born. It made my arm really sore.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve been deadnaming the Gulf of Mexico this long, might as well add the DoD.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
The one thing autism absolutely does correlate with is having other people in your family tree with autistic traits. I wholeheartedly believe we’re just born with it.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
A person does get some immunity from being infected. So if you add up vaccinated plus unvaccinated but previously infected, we might be close to that number. But, with something that mutates, it’s not exactly a static goal.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
The only one of these I didn’t get was chicken pox. By the time the vaccine came out, I’d already had the virus. I am glad I got the ones I did, and a little jealous of younger people who didn’t have to get chicken pox, because it sucks.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Only if he’s got absolutely no other choice. Something is very f*cking WEIRD, though.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Add to that, those of us who survived have always known we’re a *tiny* generation to start with and that we would never really have political power like our parents did. Apathy gets more attractive when you already know trying will just get you kicked in the face.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Same. I don’t love everything about him, but he might be what we need at this moment. I’m open to the possibility.

That’s a degree that’s outdated by the time you get the diploma. (Honestly, mine was too, but it was required for licensing.) It only proves you can learn on the job, which you’ll have to anyway.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
My back is better. I’m afraid being mad at the government is a chronic condition at this point though.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty much. Age verification costs money, which Blusky doesn’t really have. Although I have not verified my age anywhere, and Xitter did not ask me to, so…

One plausible hypothesis I’ve seen is an IV. Congestive heart failure explains the cankles, the labored breathing, and IVs. Though they usually go for the inside of the elbow, unless he’s got really crap veins.

I’m in the very middle of MS, and I’m here too. I guess we’ll see if any roadblocks come up, but for now, I still see quite a few people who I know are here.

Personally, I like a mid size college town. You get things to do, but “rush hour” is like 20 minutes to get across town instead of 12. And there’s usually art exhibits, theater, and public guest lectures on campus. But I grew up in a big city, so I guess I just got my fill of that.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
Totally agree. I’m driving a 22 year old car because it still has knobs, buttons, and switches, and I’m going to be upset when I have to have one with everything on a screen. Not everything needs to be “smart.”

And he failed to sell steaks and booze to middle America, which should also be a money machine.

Yes. And had he taken that inheritance and invested it in fairly boring traditional investments, he would have more money now than he does after trying to grow his fortune.

Even if it weren’t tainted by the author being a horrible person, did we need *another* adaptation of this story? Like, even if I were a fan, this seems like too much.

Of course they’re calling it “panic.” They characterized the reaction to the first ad as “meltdown,” when it was more like. “That’s kinda messed up.”

I was born in 79, and I think you and I are the start and end points of that era. Anyone younger than us only has “tantrum” as a tech troubleshooting tactic, and anyone older thinks it’s just voodoo. I’m half joking, but only half. 😉

Joy is a critical part of resistance. It’s harder to keep protesting and keep the energy up if everybody is sad and miserable all the time. It’s absolutely critical that we keep laughing while we work.

No question she did vile things. It’s just really telling that the woman who did vile things is in prison where she should be, but most of the men who did vile things are not. It’s not that she shouldn’t be behind bars, it’s that the rest of them *should.*

It’s definitely in the “not for everyone” category. The movie I think is much more fun. Nothing wrong with just enjoying that version.
Em G (@eesgreene.bsky.social) reply parent
I like the book. But it’s WEIRD. Very weird, and occasionally repulsive. I believe it’s supposed to disturb you. It’s not a light, fun book the way the movie is light and fun.

Honestly, we were among the lucky ones. We lost most of the shingles on one side of the roof and a couple of windows. Two houses on my street were completely demolished, I felt for them. FEMA money replaced the food that was in the fridge and someone to remove debris from the yard.
