I have not spent much time in my life observing mantids. When I got closer to this one yesterday, it went upside down, looking like another stalk on the plant with its arm just like a side stem. Such camouflage. So cool.
To finish up the thread, gallardia still blooming in the front bed (since the end of April!). A great plant for low-maintenance months-long color. š±
I have an alarm clock that is also a sunrise simulator to help me wake up. itās great and I love it but itās a lot less effective during a total eclipse

The little Kelsey Dwarf dahlia has been putting out these cute little flowers since late June.

Sometimes itās such a pain in the ass though, because in the first hour Iāll have 8 or 10 people clamoring for something, and after a day the first one is a no-show, and after another day the second taker is a no-show, etc etc, and after a week I wind up taking it to a thrift store or something.
Nextdoor has its moments. I use it a fair amount for giving away stuff (after the demise of the freecycle Yahoo groups).
I initially had a typo, with āeatā instead of ārat,ā and I wouldnāt do that either.
I see people on Nextdoor posting cats that show up at their house, like āIs this your cat?ā kind of stuff, and I just would not rat out a wanderer like that.

My grandparents owned a bakery from the 1940s through 1986 or so. My sister and I could go behind the counter and pick out cookies. I have their cookie recipe but it's not the same. I do their challah well. Sometimes I make it into fun shapes, like this uterus flipping the bird with her "hand."
