September 1, and across Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren and students are returning to school. And fascist Russia just launched a MiG-31K warplane with a Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, triggering a countrywide air alert, sending them all to shelters. Pathetic.

Now 14 dead in Kyiv. Russia will continue to do this until it faces crippling, well enforced sanctions, and more military pressure from Ukraine, aided by the West. Putin sees only weakness from Trump and the West, which encourages more attacks. Action - not "resolve to stand with" - is needed.

Fascist Russia launched 629 weapons at democratic Ukraine overnight - the second highest number of drones and missiles used in a single attack by Russia in the war yet. 12 now reported dead in Kyiv, including three children, 2, 14, 17 years old. At least 50 injured.

Situation a short time ago: more Shahed flying bomb drones likely incoming to Kyiv, cruise missiles flying south towards Poltava, SE of Kyiv. Being cruise missiles, they can change direction, of course.
The first of the cruise missiles fired by Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers earlier have entered Ukrainian airspace. It’s possible they’re also going to target Kyiv. Shaheds are still over the city - can hear distant anti-aircraft fire, not loud enough to alarm the cat though.

Vladivostok in Russia’s far east: No petrol, as the pumps are “under repair” - only diesel. The effects of Ukraine’s kinetic sanctions on fascist Russia’s oil refineries are starting to be felt at the pumps. The east has little refining capacity - it’s concentrated in the west.

The differences reflect differing roles - Flamingo is a ground-launched strategic weapon, while Tomahawk is an air or sea launched power-projection weapon for precision strikes.
Coming to military targets in Russia soon. Ukraine's massive Flamingo cruise missile is larger (12-14 meters) than a US Tomahawk (6.4 meters), with a longer range and carrying a heavier warhead (1 ton+ vs. 450kg.) It is also cheaper, with mass production in the thousands annually planned.

Do not bet on Trump being able to force Ukraine to accept Putin's surrender terms.
This situation is largely a result of the Biden administration's foolish and failed "escalation management" policy, which withheld longer-range weapons and even prohibited Ukraine from striking deep into Russia. This allowed Russia to build up drone production mostly unhindered.

The amazing thing is that while Europeans are slapping themselves on the back for their dealings with Trump, what he has done is take sanctions on Russia off the table and put giving Ukrainian territory to Russia very much on the table.
Ukrainian air defenses are still achieving shoot-down rates of about 95% for both missiles and drones. But as fascist Russia is now sending many more drones, more are getting through: If, when it was 100 drones, ~5 would reach their targets, now, when it is 500 or 600, some 25 to 30 get through.

Sound of missile (or whatever it was) comes about a second after it flies by. Speed of sound in air at 15 Celsius (approximate conditions last night) 340 m/s, so the missile passed about 340 meters way. It was going fast!
The interview Trump just gave on Air Force One, show a good level of preparation for the meeting with Putin. The tone suggests Trump’s willing to apply pressure on Putin to coerce a peace settlement. The Summit seems to be an effort to set conditions for Putin-Zelensky talks.

This is the latest round in the battle between Putin and Zelenskyy to win over Trump. The ball is currently in Putin’s court - and he has lots of options to play a good shot.
