He needs to get taken off the board. Either arrest him and hold him accountable, forcing other Russian officials to negotiate an end to the war. Or take him out. He hasn't earned any right to negotiate. He is an accused war criminal.

Trump is unwilling, and therefore unlikely, to say this to Putin. Trump *needs* to be in Putin's club, he needs to feel like he's a big important man, like be believes Putin to be. The level of threat to Trump that might make him change is for R's in Congress to credibly threaten impeachment, or 25A
I think most European leaders are aware of the existential threat posed by Russia. I also think they are ready to take bold action against Putin. They are also ready for Russia's defeat. The main obstacle is Western societies. Cowardly, accustomed to convenience, and manipulated.
