EuroNATO is where we seem to be headed. Potentially best of a lot of bad options. US remains… just about… with credibility of security guarantee virtually absent… Europe needs to mobilise quickly. EU/NATO collaboration central.

There are those that have been educated to believe that government is worse than useless - so cutting is always beneficial. How can you have a government that doesn't believe in its own efficacy? Performance is not about doing things but by being seen to be good regardless of any task.

interesting bit in a Lancet article re: Australia's teen social media ban: surprisingly the amount of socialising in person hasn't dropped significantly in the past 25 years, and certainly not by the average amount of social media use.

YouTube tops the list of the online platforms we asked about in our survey. Nine-in-ten teens report using the site, slightly down from 95% in 2022. TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat remain widely used among teens. Roughly six-in-ten teens say they use TikTok and Instagram, and 55% say the same for Snapchat. Facebook and X use have steeply declined over the past decade. Today, 32% of teens say they use Facebook. This is down from 71% in 2014-15, though the share of teens who use the site has remained stable in recent years. And 17% of teens say they use X (formerly Twitter) – about half the share who said this a decade ago (33%), and down from 23% in 2022. Roughly one-quarter of teens (23%) say they use WhatsApp, up 6 percentage points since 2022. And 14% of teens use Reddit, a share that has remained stable over the past few years. We asked about Threads, launched by parent company Meta in 2023, for the first time this year. Only 6% of teens report using it.

One frustration is the constant taking of one event and projecting it forever forward. Such as the re integration of China and Eastern Europe into the global economy; first rising population and then demographic decline; or the ability to run austerity/libertarian economic policies.

Hang on, I thought the exodus of non-doms had turned the City of London into a wasteland.... www.wsj.com/real-estate/...

LONDON—Larry Fink complains BlackRock is running out of desks. HSBC’s new tower turned out to be too small. Ken Griffin’s hedge fund, Citadel, signed a lease on a building three years ahead of time. The office market in London’s ancient commercial quarter—known simply as the City—is booming, fueled by an influx of American law and finance firms, a growing tech scene and demand for the swankiest spaces to lure workers back to their desks. The boom shows Britain’s finance industry has defied fears of a post-Brexit exodus. Despite losing some business and financiers after the U.K. left the European Union, London still hosts by far the biggest banking and capital markets in Europe. The buoyant market also reflects the district’s broadening appeal. For decades the area was a bastion of finance and insurance. Now tech companies—including Apple, TikTok and several thousand smaller firms—vie for space, drawn in part by the prospect of easy access to potential investors.

The bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act is a necessary step to ban Members of Congress and their families from engaging in insider trading. It is time to pass this bill and make it clear to the American people that their elected officials put them first.

If X is simply going to protect & defend criminal hate crimes - routinely and predictably - it needs to face a threat of closure until Elon Musk is prepared to bring his lawless site within the law And a democratic govt should say & do something about the de facto legalisation of racial hatred

If I were a Governor, I would be trying to get onside all military, police and other forces within my State. (This is probably already happened if the Governor is half competent).
