That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.
In the coming days, we expect to see what's playing out in LA and DC happen in Chicago. These efforts are not about fighting crime or making communities safer. This is about Donald Trump testing his power and producing political drama to cover up his own corruption.

Start asking political candidates and elected officials what they are doing to improve the lives of citizens. If they act like this is a foolish or naive question, "then why would we keep you around?" needs to be asked! It's like we've forgotten what government is FOR.
We're just not used to approaching politics in this frame. Instead, every question starts with the unspoken presumption that everyone is selfish, and any implication otherwise would reveal naivete.
"Is that ethical?" is a really good question. "Generally speaking, the goal of government is to improve the lives of its citizens. Can you explain how your proposal does that?"
I also think it's good for me, personally, to hear people's ideas. It's really hopeful to hear people discuss #MECFS who have been thinking of it deeply and are kindly but meticulously interrogating one another's research.

if people yell at you for advocating "moderation" on trans rights on Bluesky but not on Twitter the reason for that might be because Elon Musk, the guy who runs and owns Twitter, explicitly censored trans people's accounts and posts.
