When I was in high school one of the teachers slept with a student. She was suspended without pay for a couple of years, but allowed to return to reach at the jr high school. She slept with another, you see student a few years after that.

To Naimaās original point, itās about compartmentalizing. Maya Angelou once wrote about the problem of smiling at strangers but showing frustration to the ppl you love. Celebrating the good in your family, community, tribe/village circle, is so key. Fighting, but relishing in shared happy moments.
I had a junior high school history teacher explain to the class while staring directly at me (only poc in the class) that slavery wasnāt that bad; slaves were well taken care of; historical accounts were lies. That it didnāt make sense for someone to mistreat & not care for their property like that.
I am very thankful that I had parents who lived through the 50s and 60s in the south, and who used to bore us with stories from their childhood and young adulthood. It felt like torture at the time, but Iām able to reflect on how to live your best life despite whatās going on all around you.
