I don’t know who Moshe haDarshan is, but if there’s one thing I know is that he was real darn good at Hebrew etymology.
One view I’ve come across, among many, is the idea that the best of the best of people can suffer a lot more losses over small things precisely because they’re so good, so the bar is much higher. Not necessarily comforting, but an interesting take nonetheless.

Essentially, adjectives to definite nouns have to be made definite using a “ha” prefix. Otherwise it would say “the priest is big” rather than “the big priest.”
