See? You seem… galvanized by this. This is the level of energy we need everyone to feel. My point is: if ICE’s mask-wearing become’s *everyone’s* serious problem, then *everyone* will be incentivized to protest it. The costs of this behavior are currently localized, so there’s more room for apathy.
It definitely would hurt *everyone* if we all did this… but, on the flip side, broadening the scope of pain and danger for *everyone* instead of having it localized to “illegals” might be the forcing function we need to galvanize real and effective resistance to this.

I would say (regretfully, since I know we’re all exhausted), that this is exactly the wrong moment to rest. We will never have more power than we do today, at this moment, to fight this authoritarian wave. We must all focus and fight to save our democratic freedoms and norms. The time is now.

It can’t hurt to call Congress—takes maybe 3 mins of your time. Use the 5 Calls app. Economic boycotts. Organize protests. Get involved with orgs to get out the vote. DONATE to Dems running in special elections this year and to free press (ProPublica, AP, NPR, PBS, etc).
Different people respond to different approaches. He may be reaching a demographic in a way that all the protests haven’t yet—and if so, let’s celebrate. Unless we run these kinds of “market channel” experiments we’ll never know. Don’t lose hope!
