It's both very stupid national policy and also yet another reason USAC can't really handle being the organization for the Olympics and for all amateur racing. They obviously chose the Olympics over amateur racers here.
Even before this it's been clear that local amateur racing and Olympic racing probably can't be well managed under the same org.
They're the US governing body for the Olympics, but the Olympic committee threatened all sport governing bodies with sanctions up to no longer being the Olympic org if they didn't follow the anti trans EO.
The national org is saying this. The local chapter says they don't want to enforce the new rule, but even just saying the rules are different makes transphobes feel more enabled to harass my friends.
The personal is political -- my friends are getting notified they're no longer invited to race bikes in locally run and organized amateur bike races that get sanctioned by USA Cycling because USAC is kowtowing to the anti trans executive order.

I don't think people are naturally pragmatists. I don't care that feeding the hungry and housing the homeless is cheaper, I care that it's right. And I don't want policy to change if later grinding up the homeless to feed the hungry becomes cheaper.

If it convinces more folks to bike on those roads, and gets drivers aware of bikers, it can be a net good. I always say I appreciate the reputation bike messengers have in the city because it makes drivers ultra aware of any cyclist, which makes us safer.
Riding on the roads themselves today felt fine actually -- there were hardly any cars and all of them were willing to give space to bikes. But I wouldn't have attributed any of that to the new paint.
