Or even better, "I will join millions of Americans"
Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. ️🌻

Is south america not The West? I thought they were in the same time zone as the US 🤔

It feels like there is an implied "but not me" after the millions of Catholics. Hopefully that is a hasty judgement on my part.

Very funny that the ai defaulted to a red lightsaber in this case, if I had to guess, it probably correlates trump with red because of the hats

Is it typical for an aircraft carrier to be at the head of its group? I would have expected a destroyer to lead the way, but every image I see has the destroyers lagging behind.

It does make you wonder, if China is heavily investing in expensive fighter/bombers, do they believe that drones are a problem in the way X seems to think?
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
Wait until she finds out the US is still sending aid weekly to Ukraine
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
You would need far far more than 1 pound per drone to deliver more than a firecracker to each target. If we are talking multi rotor drones, I suspect you would likely run into volume constraints before mass constraints.

I don't get it... He doesn't even have a horse in this race. Usually you can explain his actions based on whatever makes him a buck but I do not see how he benefits from replacing a known reliable part of the US military with hopes and dreams of drones.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
You also can't just not have a workhorse fighter jet. That is a death sentence for any modern military
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
What would be the point of shouting about this? Even if the F-35 is crap for some reason that is kept under wraps, we don't have anything lined up to replace it. We can't just replace the primary US fighter jet at the drop of a hat like its a standard issue uniform or something.

It seems like the only thing that would satisfy them is other countries emposing strict quotas on what is allowed to be exported to the US. They essentially desire a partial embargo against their own country...

Maybe that view is too idealistic but honestly I don't care.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
It doesn't matter if it leads to an electoral wipeout. If that is what you are worried about instead of "how can I make the lives of those I represent better in a lasting way", I think you are worried about the wrong thing. Do the right thing, leave the world better than you found it

I will say that you can go to a trade school while holding a normal minimum wage job. It's not a lot of fun but it's definitely possible. It's a problem with motivation, not opportunity. Lots of these positions are actually filled by manufacturing operators who learned their stuff.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
It was more a pitch for trade schools from what I heard, which are currently underrated IMO. But we already don't have enough people in the trades so idk how theoretically increasing demand through these ridiculous tariffs will help.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
So to be fair there is a massive shortage in automation technicians in the US. That is a job that basically combines intermediate electronics, programming and mechanics along with all the skills of a mechanic. If you add more automated factories you would need more techs to keep them online.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures...
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
This is specifically futures. That means you hold the contract to buy a commodity (usually) for example a barrel of oil. If you buy a futures contract, you are betting the price will go up in the short term before the sale is completed (the ship is unloaded for example).
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
The formula they used for tariffs incentivizes this type of retaliation. Service exports are not included in the calculation that they used to create their "trade barrier rate" so tariffing services or even outright embargos against them won't show up in US trade deficits.

That's not to say that manufacturing jobs are bad. It's to say that they are a job like any other, and life is what you make it.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
Most precision manufacturing jobs are close to the hated "email jobs" that manufacturing supposedly will push out. You pick up the small lightweight part and put it in the machine. You take the lot of parts and move it to the next station. It's not taxing or particularly meaningful work.

Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
How are we building all those machines? Those are made mostly in Germany, Japan, and Taiwan. Bootstrapping this would take multiple stages. 10-20 years minimum before you could make robots at the scale we need in the US minimum.

Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course this is assuming you don't need to do any RnD and are simply replicating existing machines/lines to a new location. There would need to be a lot of refitting to adapt machines to american power grids etc. Stuff like an auto plant could take many years.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
Other processes that rely on custom automation would take closer to that 3 year number you stated. It's especially problematic to build custom automation in an environment with tariffs since many things essential for building automation (PLCs, robots) are simply not made in the US.
Frontier (@forgottonfrontier.bsky.social) reply parent
It varies a lot by process. Some manufacturing processes that use mostly off the shelf equipment and standardized tooling (a business primary built on injection molding for example) could probably set up a new plant in around a year, if they are willing to pick up a variety of presses. /
