In 1990 I innocently asked a history teacher about this. He was scathing about the vandals who owned the particular listed building in question "They're waiting for it to collapse so they can build apartments & make out like bandits". Plus ca change & suchlike

How is this right? A house like this qualifies for the #DerelictIreland dereliction grant, when it’s in no way a derelict property? The qualification is to be empty for two years. That’s all.

The tiny amount of progress made on this issue is sad. So many #DerelictIreland properties aren’t even on the Derelict Property Register, much less taxed appropriately. Govt grant backfired because the price of derelicts on the market rose in line with the grant. Local councils need to do more.
