We just haven't forgotten our history, allowing any government department to forcibly take over someone's property is not in our sikie.

When property is regulated and taxed or there's something like eminent domain, this can happen anywhere. I don't think we'd want something clumsy like making people homeless in order to do it, though.
Derelict properties are not taxed.
OK, that's a different view than in the USA in which it's virtually impossible for any private real estate to be untaxed. I guess you're suggesting that eminent domain isn't a thing either?
Some kind of fixer-upper system could make sense.
We have that already there's grants up to 70k.
Well if there are devils in details, I hope this gets worked out in future to the best thing possible to help homeless and mitigate blight along with it. And the same thing in the currently miserable land of the ewe essay.
In a more liberal global system, maybe there could even be treaties about this?
I don't believe in cursing darkness when candles can be lit.
Seems like Ireland might be able to use something like fixer-uppers for humanity funded in substantial part by philanthropy. In fact why not the USA, too.
Luckily we are a rich country with have billions in tax surplus so don't need to rely on philanthropy But nothing stopping the weathly doing up derelict properties. #DerelictIreland #speirgorm
In fact maybe each (and more) could be friendlier to immigration when the immigrants want to fix-up and live in such properties.
Compulsory purchase. It's the same in the UK.
Totally Seamus Plus Compulsory Sales like in the UK and Complulsory Rental like in Amsterdam and Barcelona
A use it or lose it policy... Absolutely
They’re tiny homes like in Zoolander? Just make them 3x their size and you’ll be fine.
This is Ireland not the USA we don't need to unsustainable mc mansions. There is a massive demand for 1 bed homes in Ireland, thats why new apartments are even smaller than these homes. #speirgorm #derelictireland
