I like the idea that there would have been several rounds of experimentation based on what they'd eaten the day before. "Guys, what's on the prison menu tonight?" "Curry." "Well there goes the escape plan for another 48 hours. When are we going to get some damn roughage?"
The title says the knives "do not work", but in what context is that? Like, do they not work as weapons, but they might work for making a sandwich? Did they even TRY making a sandwich with the butt knife?
I love experimental archeology as much as the next person, but some things have subject matter experts. "Can item X be made into a useable knife?" is a question that (ex-)prisoners can answer pretty handily.

AIRPORT BUS TRIVIA A lot of bus routes have numbers in the 7*7 range so that they can ape Boeing aircraft types. 717 serves Stansted 727 serves Aberdeen 737 serves Bournemouth etc. Bus route 216 serves Bristol Airport, 216 being the airframe number of the last Concorde built at Filton.
Used to take that bus every now and again! Sadly, that route got taken over by RailAir and is now the very unimaginative RA2. A cultural loss of national importance, I feel.

Actually I’m 5 foot 9, so ACTUALLY that’s pretty average height I think you’ll find. Also camera lenses tend to make people of very normal height look shorter, in my experience

And there’s so much they could do, small things. Like, giving councils public realm money to invest in street cleaning, weed clearing, public realm maintenance. Ministers appearing happy and casual in public. Positive language, not all WE’RE SENDING THEM BACK. Focus on a positive national culture.
