Agreed. Petroleum products are everywhere and present a problem from the extraction of the oil to the microplastics in the oceans and drinking water. Until the cost of fixing the problems created by oil drilling and processing is included in the price of oil it will be the product of choice.

The up grade of the electrical transmission system is required due to the necessity of electrifying all processes that are burning fossil-fuel. The advantage of adding solar panels is that it is DC and can be transmitted via HVDC lines which are cheaper and more efficient than HVAC lines.
24 years in the electric utility industry allows me tell you that base load is never used to meet peak demand. Small peaking units are used to provide that short term need. No utility wants to build nuclear plants. They cost too much to build and operate. Mining and processing fuel lots of GHG.
Go to the fueleconomy.gov site you will see that their data does include emissions for mining and construction of the vehicles, inclusive of the battery. The article does address fossil-fuel being used to make electricity. It indicates that electric generation was the highest emitter.
