Yes, it’s not about the politics. It’s about the money. Meme makers get follows and clicks which are good for them and great for the platforms. And emotional content is key to getting attention and shares. We’ve all participated in it. Now we just need to retrain ourselves.
At this point, I never trust any meme no matter what it says. I always look for credible sources, preferably more than two, to confirm a story. (Of course, I hope this one is true, too.) I just wish we would all stop sharing memes!

As much as I loathe him, we can’t blame him for it. It will be our elected members of Congress who make that decision. Let’s not make our desire for a clear narrative with an evil mastermind take the focus and pressure off those we elect. We can’t lobby Musk. But we can and should lobby them.

I wish my friend Kannan success and it’s good to see DLCC’s support. I also hope the DPVA and its financial supporters will be running and supporting candidates in every single district and giving full throated support and resources to every progressive candidate. That’s how we’ll win.

My concern, assuming it stays a friendly space, is that it will be overtaken by megaphones.
I’m always a little skeptical when I hear that an organization “can’t afford” to do something. Raising money is difficult. But not impossible. And, at some level, there was a choice made about how to continue Sesame Street. Their choice was HBO. It’s sad. But I hope they will seek to correct it.
Thanks for the clarification. Well, then hopefully they will assume responsibility for production again now that HBO has lost interest.
I found that on Mastadon and stopped using it for that reason. I’m still hopeful this could be like Twitter before it became a toxic cesspool. Maybe there are still more listeners than engages as folks get a sense of one another and the platform.
I haven’t noticed that yet. Or have overlooked it. Perhaps that’s the general vibe at present right before the change in administration rather than a reflection on the platform or those it attracts.

The vote on HR 9495 — a bill which will empower the incoming Trump administration to unilaterally strip nonprofits of their tax exempt status — has been moved up to tomorrow. Make your calls now!
And here’s how you can stop this bill from becoming law: Call 202-224-3121, ask to be connected to your Representative’s office, tell them respectfully but passionately why you oppose this legislation. And do it BEFORE Thursday morning!

Another piece of legislation demanding the immediate attention and a swift response from all those in the US nonprofit sector.
Tell Congress to oppose H.R. 9495, which would give the executive branch power to strip a U.S. nonprofit of its tax-exempt status without due process, chill nonprofit activity, and endanger any organization that may be targeted by an administration.
I’d love to learn more and to help spread the word, too.
