The Tigers traded Bunning to the Phillies for Don Demeter and a few years later traded him to the Red Sox for Earl Wilson. I also had a chance to meet him after he retired. A really cool dude. He could him too.

After Kaline retired, going to the game was like going to a family gathering after someone had died. 22 years of excellence and he was gone.
I really liked Kaline but he was a bit shy and didn't interact with us kids as much. Although he was a great pitcher, Jim Bunning was a 24 carat prick.
I've been to a few games at Fenway. Wonderful park.
Maxwell would also interact with us kids. He had a knack of hitting home runs on Sunday. One Sunday in a Sunday doubleheader against the Yankees, he hit 4 home runs in consecutive at bats over parts of the 2 games.
My first ever game was opening day 1959 vs, The White Sox. My first visiting player that I really liked was Al Smith who would take time to interact with us kids. He had played in the Negro Leagues before playing in the majors. My first favorite Detroit player was Charlie Maxwell.

My sincere condolences for the loss of your Mom. Mine passed at age 50 in 1973. Even though she's been gone for longer than she was alive, I still think of her often, and miss her a lot.
I saw Williams play in his final year (1960) against the Detroit Tigers in Detroit at Briggs Stadium which was renamed the following year to Tiger Stadium. Ted had such a perfect swing. Glad I got to see him.

I'm less than a year younger than he is. I'm still very physically active and occasionally bang into things working or downhill mountain biking. I bruise more frequently than when I was younger, but it's not always in the same place.
I really do like west Texas. I did post grad work in Astronomy and really enjoy the MicDonald Observatory. That's where they send laser beams to the moon to reflect off of the mirrors that the Apollo astronauts placed there. They have discovered that the moon is slowly moving farther from Earth.
I can't speak for anyone else; but I would hope that it would never become like Twitter/X. Too many mean spirited people were there. Also those with batshit crazy conspiracy ideas were another issue. I don't want to be unkind to anyone; but there is a lot less of that here.
I did a rafting trip through there. Loved it. I've stayed at the Chisos Mountain lodge on a couple of occasions.

In defense of umpires on ball and strike calls: Catchers "frame" pitches and pitchers can put so much spin on a baseball that it does unreal things.
I enjoy watching baseball games but I aim concerned about the quality of the umpiring, particularly on balls and strikes, and checked swings. Most other calls are reviewable. A bad ball or strike call changes an at bat. The difference between a 1-0 vs 0-1; and a 2-1 vs 1-2 is significant.
