LOL because one of my kids (many years ago) solemnly pronounced as I put him to bed that I had a brain the size of a walnut. In discussion later, he said, "Well, at least I didn't say it had the size of a peanut." So now I'm wondering if a walnut comparison would be unparliamentary.

I think long ago I did some work for that horse guy as part of a volunteer group from my school. If so, I really do think they do good work, and I'd hate for them (and all the neighbors) to have their places rendered unliveable for years because of this pit.

Two hundred trucks a day will destroy the road, and I'm guessing there will be periodic explosions and lots of dust. I have a lot of sympathy for the neighbors. And then have no plan for dealing with that? It sounds like they were taking approval for Granite.

Yes. Again, I'm in no position to compare, but it may be that Qatar was easier than this. It's much easier for me to run a good pace in 100+ F in the dry Palousethan in Louisiana's lower temps but very high humidity.. Obvs you need to hydrate, but at my mediocre pace, I can manage the heat.
GregSergienko (@gregsergienko.bsky.social) reply parent
These players are MUCH more fit than I, but I doubt that much affects their ability to cool. Conservatively, I'd guess they'd ordinarily burn 300 KCal per game, and each Kcal raises a liter by a degree. I haven't watched the games, but I'd guess that heat management is a major part of strategy.
GregSergienko (@gregsergienko.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair point. I've never been to Qatar, so I can't compare, but I did recreational middle-distance running in Louisiana, and it's brutal. Even months of acclimating to the heat and humidity, the limiting factor in my speed during summer days was my appeal to shed heat.

Mind you, I'm not sure about that, but to me the big challenge is the political process of getting new justices on the Court. But if the political process allowed for non-Trumpist justices, it boggles the mind to think that they would honor decisions by a lawless and corrupt Supreme Court.
GregSergienko (@gregsergienko.bsky.social) reply parent
It might be better than that. Now, the Supreme Court is enforcing its preferences by ignoring precedent, so a subsequent court can undo its work by respecting the prior precedent. By contrast, the reconstruction court wrote on a blank slate, so precedent unambiguously constrained later courts.
