Went pigeon shooting on my lunch break today and I found this mob boss

A crowd of multicolored pigeons on a bridge overlooking the Chicago River. A large pigeon stands to the side facing his pigeon brethren, looking somewhat like a mob boss with a puffy coat. I’ve edited the saturation to emphasize the purple and green parts of its coat.

I can’t speak for every practitioner, but at least with the folks I worked with I saw this as a move in the right direction. In that this was recognizing that certain things were off the table for manipulation, even if the practitioner was looking to alter physically harmful behavior.

7. The paper looks at how researchers might hand off boring "drudge work" such as data collection and cleaning to AI agents, and what could (and IMO will) go wrong as they do so. Here's a key passage.

Critically, we argue that the very framing of certain AI applications around themes of productivity, efficiency, speed, convenience, and ease can conflict with their thoughtful and rigorous situated consideration — itself a somewhat laborious exercise. Precisely because convenience is the key appeal of some AI tools, researchers who adopt these methods have little incentive to question them and investigate in detail the epistemic implications of adopting them – or privileging them over other approaches. Convenience AI can be dangerous because, motivated by speed and ease, it can instil complacency into the use of given tools and lower the depth and frequency of critical scrutiny

Thing is, there *are* some children that “picky eating” is a phase. There are kids who have ARFID. And there are kids who are somewhere in between. You don’t know where any particular child is on this spectrum. You might successfully bully some kids out of “fussiness.” Or you might kill them.

The first of my Pokémon projects I like well enough to post. This Sprigatito LOVES mess

Drawing of a Sprigatito with both paws on their face looking very interested in what it’s seeing. In the background a Polteageist gleefully whispers to a Sinistea, who looks shocked.

Several of my Autistic peers have panic attacks around alt text because they want a rule set about what to write. As @cara.city perfectly demonstrates here what the image is *intended* to *convey* is what is critical. “The worst person you know just made a great point guy” is perfect Alt text here

www.scientificamerican.com/article/four... Four New Autism Subtypes Link Genes to Children's Traits The most interesting takeaway to me is the proportions of these groups. 71% of participants, across 2 groups, did not experience significant developmental delays.

I’m curious to hear their discussion on this. There’s a lot of room for bad faith bullshit here…

Agreed entirely, and that goes for behavioral crises too. Behavior change can only be done ethically AND effectively if you know the “why”, and understanding that “why” comes much more intuitively for someone whose brain is more similar than not.

I’m sure the increased frequency and intensity of these extreme weather events and natural disasters has nothing to do with global warming at all.

Obscene ideas are injected into public life with "humour" ... and then enacted. My column this week is pegged to the recent calls in the Spectator to murder people at Glastonbury, and on GB News to starve and shoot disabled people. You could call it wink murder. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Didn’t start today expecting to end it with a new member of the family, but Piper here fit the logistical Goldilocks zone we needed to support a third dog! A Corgi and Australian Cattle dog mix, we already know she’s gonna keep us busy. Thankfully she seems to like playing with Millie!

A mostly white corgi Australian cattle dog mix standing in a yard next to a concrete patio. A mostly white salt & peppery corgi/ aus cattle dog mix chewing on her red chew bone on my couch. My dachshund’s butt is visible frame left. A mostly white dog with grey spots with her back legs splayed out to the sides. The word “sploot” is edited onto her back.
