I can’t speak for every practitioner, but at least with the folks I worked with I saw this as a move in the right direction. In that this was recognizing that certain things were off the table for manipulation, even if the practitioner was looking to alter physically harmful behavior.

Having burnt out from the field, this is kinda how it already works. If you approach SPED or HCBS support in good faith you’ll be held to the same productivity standards as someone using LLMs for IEPs. Why? Nobody cares about education quality, they’re just checking a box.

Thing is, there *are* some children that “picky eating” is a phase. There are kids who have ARFID. And there are kids who are somewhere in between. You don’t know where any particular child is on this spectrum. You might successfully bully some kids out of “fussiness.” Or you might kill them.

Agreed entirely, and that goes for behavioral crises too. Behavior change can only be done ethically AND effectively if you know the “why”, and understanding that “why” comes much more intuitively for someone whose brain is more similar than not.
