not sure how exactly, but we have to change how we talk about marginalized groups and DEI. if nothing else, the tone can't be so quick to call others wrong or the problem just because it's not their top issue. not being a minority doesn't make someone the enemy, wrong, or guilty.
i think years of being told they're wrong, that they need to care more, or even being called bigots have swayed them towards 'the war on wokeness', because if nothing else, they aren't 'wrong' with that crowd.
with that in mind, i think there's a lot of people with "haven't i done enough" fatigue. they consider themselves allies, but no matter what they do, they constantly feel reprimanded for not saying the right words or understanding the latest issues or groups looking to be heard.
ugh, i'm gonna regret talking politics, but this topic bugs me. i went to college under a minority scholarship, and am pretty sure I was considered for my first job due to diversity quotas. that said, i'd like to think i've proven myself over my career, showing the merit of DEI programs.
