This Cardinal had been trying his best to put up with noisy little hummingbirds taking over HIS tree. He is defiantly not molting. 🪶
These pictures may or may not be in sequence but with nuthatches it really doesn't matter. 2/2 🪶
As I zoned out on hummingbirds yesterday a White-breasted Nuthatch had a very busy up and down the tree stashing seeds. It's rare to catch a glimpse of the beautiful back as fast as they move. 1/2 🪶

For years they came to my MIL's flowers close by, then flowers on my porch. I've only had feeders since 2021. (Central AL)
Rough going from the high of Labor Day to the low that is TODAY but I'm glad I could end the day watching these cute little borbs chill before a long flight away 🥰🪶
While not lifers, both of these birds were singing at different times today. Each time I looked at Merlin, played the calls, the Swainson's Thrush answered and later the Yellow-billed Cuckoo answered from the other direction. The Swainson's Thrush is only pushing through in migration. 🪶

For #Twosday here are two Tufted Titmice checking out a ramp next to a water feature (rainwater in an empty flower pot) they were playing in with much drama. Titmice turn everything into a playground. 🪶
Good morning! Yesterday I realized more migrating Ruby-throated Hummingbirds had joined the party. When the feeders are this busy there are maybe 20 hummers taking a rest in the tree and shrubs around my porch. Two bags of sugar have been procured.🪶

I sat in on Saturday morning’s songbird banding session at Oak Hammock Marsh. Among a steady flow of young yellowthroats was a smattering of other confusing fall warblers, sparrows, catbirds, wrens, a phoebe and this wee hummingbird! #birds

I really think it's these particular parents that gave their kids permission! Last year, they had their clutch really late in the season and one of the kids would always come running up to my car when he saw me. I had a great time with the family last year, but nothing like this year.

A switch flipped when the migration crowd arrived last Sunday. It happens they're seriously fueling to migrate further South. One unique dominant male left around then, but one controls the feeder on the west side of the porch. So midday I swap them up.
