7000 people live in downtown Pittsburgh currently but it's a lot of students and young professionals without kids. To bring in elderly and kids they need more grocery options, schools, and parks. We lived at the Commonwealth on Fourth for six months and really enjoyed it.

Where did you hang out in Houston? I'm one of few who really like aspects of Houston but the weather and state government are oppressive. Chicago and Savannah are my favorites and recently bought a house in Pittsburgh and will leave Texas behind for good in the spring.

Born in Seattle and now in Pittsburgh and talking to family about the hills in both places. From that conversation: Highest point in Seattle is 520 ft above sea level compared to 1371 in Pittsburgh. Seattle lowest point is at sea level and Pittsburgh is 710 ft above sea level.

What determines if a state is red or blue is the ratio of urban to rural areas. In Washington state the population in what's a relatively small land mass outmaths the rural areas. Texas has several blue megacities that are overwhelmed by rural areas the size of France.
