I hope the company stays in the area, and I hope they decide to hire more locals to work there, but if we keep bumbling in this way, a lot of other businesses are going to pull out of the US.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The US is burning all of our bridges with other nations and this is yet another foolish stumble that was completely unnecessary.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
perhaps the parent company could be persuaded to handle things themselves. There's a lot of other ways this could have gone, which would have made a lot more sense than arresting 475 people in a way that threatened our relationship with South Korea.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
South Korea has been a close ally with the US for a very long time. We should have coordinated our actions with them. Perhaps there were some misunderstandings about what paperwork subject matter experts and translators from South Korea needed,
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Rather than focusing on "oh weee, we can make the largest raid ever" they should have put some thoughts into how to proceed in a way most beneficial to the area, and the country.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
We'll give them a lot of leeway, as I am not in a position to know the finer details. So let's assume these 475 people really were working without proper paperwork, work permits, etc..
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social)
Okay so let's talk a moment about the ICE raid on the Hyundai plant, and how it's another example of incompetence at the highest levels. They arrested 475 mostly South Koreans at a site that employed around 1,200 people.

This reminds me of an old US Army video I often share called Don't Be a Sucker. It goes over how people often support others losing their rights, because of whatever rationality provided, then they are surprised when they are next.

Yes, the get people now and worry about due process later is authoritarianism too.

The Trump Administration is trying to take guns away from minority groups in the United States, while at the same time pretending that the Second Amendment exists to prevent them from doing so. This is tyranny, not a Constitutional Republic.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social)
Yet another sign of tyranny from this administration.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
If they are successful in convincing people they can use the National Guard against the people, then at that point they can take guns away from anyone they want.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely. The reason the fascist groups want to rewrite the Second Amendment to be about guns rather than the militia is to gain power, not lose it.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
And is there any legitimate reason beyond trying to move it to a red state?
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent

You get how those lists go against what you're saying, right? If you're going to ban all guns and ammo... why would you provide a list? Wouldn't the list just be "All"?
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
And nothing in that true American History has to do with taking your guns away. So don't assume everyone wants your stuff. Breathe. Find some balance. Respect others and they'll usually respect you.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The focus of the entire Bill of Rights was to limit the powers of Congress so that all states would agree to fully adopt the US Constitution. They didn't once talk about preventing all gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
In the Second Amendment, the phrase "keep and bear arms" is talking about assembling the well-regulated militia at the start of the sentence. The Anti-Federalists thought that A1S8 gave Congress the power to defund the militias if they wanted, rendering them useless on the battlefield.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's a fallacy, to think that we're going to a conclusion that is completely irrelevant to the actual conversation. I want people to UNDERSTAND the Second Amendment. That's not the same as wanting to take away your guns.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social)
Another day, another court lets us know what we already knew - that Trump breaks the law. This time that his funding freeze against Harvard was unlawful.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
What most people want are adult conversations about gun regulations to try and find a good balance between responsible gun ownership and reduction of senseless deaths due to easy access to or lack of safety training for guns.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Nothing in the Second Amendment encourages gun bans, and Democrats who support a full gun ban are in the extreme minority, the idea that Democrats would ban all guns is unrealistic.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
It was always about protecting the well regulated (organized ) state militias. Not personal gun collections.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Second Amendment was drafted to meet this demand from the Anti-Federalists (this is George Mason) :
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Getting people to think the Second Amendment is about gun collections rather than the National Guard is part of their strategy to install tyranny.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump and his team, and even most on the Supreme Court (led by Clarence Thomas) want us to ignore the Second Amendment. They want people to believe it's about gun collections rather than preventing the National Guard from being used like Red Coats.

Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Court's decision in this case does align with the Second Amendment, but any time the "logic" from Bruen is used it makes the court look childish, and typically makes Clearance Thomas throw a temper tantrum.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Second Amendment just says the people have a right to a well regulated militia, it doesn't say that the National Guard can't use machine guns unless people outside of the Guard commonly use machine guns.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That absurd premise results in nonsense like "The Government responded that the Second Amendment’s plain text does not cover machineguns because they are not in common use by private citizens."
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
So tired of the courts supporting the crazy notion that the Second Amendment has anything to do with personal firearms ownership. It's about ensuing we have a National Guard. Nothing more.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Yup, it's meant to be read as one coherent sentence about a single topic. Originally it was about two topics, but they removed the bit about not having to serve in the well regulated militia if it's counter to your religion.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The NRA has been trying to make that one about selling more guns rather than the moral check against tyranny.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's just gibberish... The Second Amendment has nothing to do with personal gun ownership and a lot of Democrats own guns and support gun rights.

Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The MAGA minded folks have been eroding the Second Amendment at the Supreme Court level since 2008, but the original intent of the 2A is to help prevent the National Guard from being used in this way.

So after years of this I know most of their arguments, and why they are wrong. This one gave up really soon and without much said.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
I have had really long debates with 2A "advocates" on Twitter, telling them why they are wrong, providing references and explanations, after a while the conversations go dead and later they say they "won" the argument.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Blocking is easier than having an actual conversation, or being open to learning US History. They blocked me too.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The 2008 decision was just awful.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. I just want to take the Second Amendment out of their toolkit, because it doesn't belong there.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
And people aren't right, left, or central left. These days what's important is if they are pro or anti fascism. We need to band together and kick MAGA out of our government and politics.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Framers wanted us to figure those types of things out with adult conversations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Nothing in the Second Amendment, or the entire Constitution, is about personal gun ownership any more than personal car ownership.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The purpose of the Second Amendment was to placate the Anti-Federalists who wanted to make sure that states could provide for the militias (National Guard) if Congress neglected to.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
What "regulated" means in the Second Amendment is explained in Article 1 Section 8: Trained by the states according to the discipline prescribed by Congress and officers appointed by the state.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Nope. They had long debates about what to put in the Bill of Rights and personal gun ownership didn't come up once.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
They haven't provided anything new, just repeating words without understanding them.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Take some time to comprehend the sentence and how it all fits together.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, but we need to stop catering to people that think that the Second Amendment protects their right to avoid adult conversations about gun regulations, they need to grow up and participate or step aside.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
They're supposed to be total opposites.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Repeating the words exactly doesn't reveal any sort of comprehension on your part. The right to keep and bear arms is the right to assemble the well regulated state militia mentioned in the first half of the sentence.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
It was never meant to be as small or specific as protecting personal gun ownership, even for militia members. During their time a lot of the state militias shared firearms. Not everyone personally owned them.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Specifically they wanted to ensure that States could provide for those militias even if Congress neglected to (which they haven't) and to maintain the state loyalties of those militias.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Framers meant for the Second Amendment to protect the well regulated state militias themselves, what we call the National Guard and Naval Militias today.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's close to what it used to mean... Yes, the Supreme Court has been changing the Second Amendment in law since 2008, but it was never limited to people in the militia.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm pro Second Amendment and I'm adult enough to acknowledge that it has nothing in it that prevents getting n regulations or adult conversations about the topic.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly. The National Guard aren't Red Coats.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Those idiots don't even know what the Second Amendment means.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Not if people don't realize that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to prevent people like Trump from using the National Guard like Red Coats.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
No, people just need to learn what it means. It's not about preventing gun regulations, it's about protecting the existence of the National Guard.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's how the 2nd A fights tyranny, because the well regulated state militias are comprised of members of the communities where they would be deployed (domestically). They called it the moral check, as few people would subjugate their families, neighbors and co-workers.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Framers wanted to ensure that the militias (again, what we call the National Guard today) maintained more loyalty to the people in their state than the Federal Government.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
And the idiots who think that it's about their right to shoot the government to retain their freedoms are delusional. Yes it's to help prevent tyranny, but not the way they insist.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The NRA has leaned heavily into pushing lies about the Second Amendment protecting people's rights to own any type of gun and ammo over anything else because they represent gun and ammo companies that want more sales.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The truth is that the Second Amendment is supposed to protect our right to a well regulated state militia (The National Guard) not prevent gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
There's nothing wrong with the actual Second Amendment, it's supposed to prevent a Presidential from using the National Guard the way Trump is using them, what's wrong is people thinking that the 2A has anything to do with gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The Second Amendment is very relevant to the current times, as it's there, in part, to prevent the National Guard for what Trump is trying to use them for. They're not Red Coats.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
More people need to share the fact that the Second Amendment has nothing to do with personal gun collections or preventing gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Not all of us, just the ones trying to pretend that the Second Amendment has anything to do with gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
2nd amendment things like... ensuring that we the people have a National Guard, and they're not used as Trump's personal Red Coats.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
I want to see us electing more legislators who are good at reading and writing good bills, more governors who are good at managing teams and keeping a government running well, and fewer people elected because they sound funny or are maximum partisans.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
I can see how they are funny, but to me it's just a sign of how bad things are if that's what a politician has to do to get attention.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Would be nice, but no, telling a President he overstepped usually doesn't have consequences beyond (normally) the President no longer doing that thing. In this case, these just go to the Supreme Court, that's broken, and they let Trump do what he wants.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
We need to remember that the National Guard is comprised of part-time soldiers who are full-time citizens. They're not Red Coats, even if Trump is treating them as if they are.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of them don't know why they have been deployed where they have, and would be against being used to enforce tyranny. There's a moral check keeping the NG from being used against us. So treat the NG as fellow Americans.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
The National Guard is the well regulated state militia of the Second Amendment. It's already being mustered... against us. But we can't confuse the orders from Trump with the personal intentions of our militia.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Well regulated state militias are rarely shown to be effective against super powered mutants.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
No children have died to protect the real Second Amendment, which is about our right to a well regulated state militia. But some have died to protect a fictional right to not have gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
That's why Trump's use if the National Guard is so dramatically against the Framers' intentions.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
And no child should. Instead people need to learn that the Second Amendment protects our rights to a well regulated state militia, not a nonsense right against gun regulations.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social) reply parent
Makes as much sense as the nonsense about the Second Amendment being about personal gun collections.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social)
This time that Trump's NG deployment was illegal.
Harley Robertson (@harleyrobertson.bsky.social)
So the Trump plan to "unleash American energy" is to wait until energy plants are 80% done... then cancel them?
