When covid hit in 2020 I was running a financial advice firm & I was exhausted from doing something my whole life that I was good at but hated..loved my clients, loathed the job. Husband worked another couple of years but I stopped then, never regretted it even with a big income drop.
For breakfast I had homemade fruit scones with homemade plum jam. For lunch I had homemade chicken and vegetable soup with homemade bread. For supper I just had seafood Spaghetti with a homemade tomato sauce made with my own tomatoes. I LOVE being retired even if it's on a smaller income.

Exhausted! Went foraging on mum's fields, 5kg of blackberries, 500g rosehip to make syrup & about 4kg of sloes to make sloe gin + whatever else I can find a recipe for. Add in the plums & pears still to come from the garden (estimate 75kg of each!) & we're good for free food!

Blackberries from fields my mum has & there are 1000's of them, also elderberries & sloes. Im retired but Im a bit panicky about preservation! I have a pressure canner, dehydrator & water bath but any thoughts not to waste welcome! & yes Im giving away LOADS to friends etc & foodbank!
I have more pears, plums and blackberries than I know what to do with, already used some blackberries mixed with the raspberries & strawberries that I froze to make 10 big jars of jam, 9 plum jam from 3kg but probably another 40kg of plums + maybe 60kg of conference pears!
