it might seem unrelated, but as a yoga teacher folx are always trying to get me to knock goat yoga, etc. why? it’s harmless, probably fun, and maybe after they feel more comfortable checking out a regular yoga class, which is really good for them, but sometimes scary to try. gate keeping is weird.

There’s a degree of financial privilege one has by virtue of being non disabled. The ability to work, to not have to spend hundreds of dollars on medical supplies… it all adds up. When you’re disabled the system forces you to remain below the poverty line, which just makes a person sicker.
Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.
my husband is a middle school art teacher and the doge cuts have forced the school to close their art dept. entirely. yet one more teacher competing for fewer jobs with lower pay.

they’ve done some studies on “wearing dogs out through exercise” and it turns out to be pretty ineffective. they’ve evolved to be active, so a dog adjusts to the new workload way faster than a person can increase it. it’s still really good for them, obviously, but doesn’t do much for behavior.

Disability is not a moral failing. It can’t be prevented with healthy living, prayer, or wellness culture. It’s a natural part of life. If you live long enough, you will more than likely experience disability. We should all be fighting for better social supports, inclusion and accommodation.

i use this analogy to explain antidepressants to assholes. like…it’s no different than glasses or any other standard accommodation/correction device. my body doesn’t make enough serotonin so i use a serotonin aid. i’m not weak nor am i lazy.

i stayed home to care for myself today after a rough weekend with grandma. caring for a family member with dementia is hard enough, but lots of us are also dealing with someone who is manipulative, narcissistic, or just plain mean. it’s dehumanizing, hurtful, and frustrating.
I’m a strong, stubborn lady, but would legit be dead without my antidepressants…multiple times over. it can’t make the current moment less of a river of shit, but it might give you few more spoons so you don’t drown in it. our survival IS resistance. 🪷
