I have the Shop Assistants album and that single. For me they were the absolute epitome of the C86 whatchamacallit. They wrote catchy simple songs often hiding glorious guitar lines. When I saw them live they cruised along beautifully. Promoter thought they were an alternative cabaret act though!
The Boiler is both thought provoking and harrowing in equal measure. It sadly got little air time then and it continues to be ignored. That Shop Assistants EP is delicious.

It's great! The longest track is the wonderful Baby Baby and most of the other songs clock in at under 2 minutes. It also includes the track from which SLF take their name.
For me, the first album is way better but I think this has Troops of Tomorrow on it(?) which the Exploited covered. I could be way wrong on all of this.

Yes, indeed and must have helped to keep the label going. Also some great releases from:- Total Chaos, The Reptiles, Reality Control, Uproar and The Cube among others. It's probably worth buying anything on the label really.

Great band, brilliant album but I think Fingers were supporting TRB. Sadly I wasn't there so could be wrong.

Thanks for doing this. These things are always both interesting and subjective. Totally agree with some but not others. SLF- Inflammable Material was a brilliant debut? I would have The Clash ahead of the Jam s first LP. Maybe a better list might be bands who did only one real album.

Honestly could not differentiate between those 2 Jam albums. Secret Affair was the only one not instantly recognisable to me and you would have to include Crass.....of course you would - of course you would! Something for us all to aim for. Music can help obviously. I have had good results with rootsreggae and dub, also Chet Baker. Best to avoid Iggy and the stooges and SLF's Inflammable Material album in my experience.
