It's a key locale in late 19th and early 20th century USMC history. Once the railway was built, circa 1855, it became a key ocean-going-commerce thoroughfare. Roosevelt even contemplated invading Cartagena fm Colon once, in 1904. When the canal was complete, security was turned over to the Army.

I worked for a consulting firm that landed a job to work with the 6-Sigma team at a foundry that cast engine blocks for one of the large agricultural equipment manufacturers in the midwest. None of us had 6-Sigma certification. We were brought in to teach them how to talk to coworkers.

Great point. They're still an Asian power working off status they really lost in the early 90s. They also lost industrial and intellectual powers when Eastern Europe found their way west. But they maintained assets buried in the west.

September is national emergency preparedness month. Test your readiness this month. Fire escapes- are windows able to be opened? Is furniture blocking access? Do you have 3 days of emergency food? In a bad disaster it can take several days to get state or federal aid into a disaster area.
