Since the original post doesn't have alt text: it's the percentage of each US state that's trans according to a survey. Virginia is only at 0.6%, below West Virginia and Tennessee somehow, and below many other similar cesspools that we have no business being behind. More trans folks, fewer fascists!

Virginia is a relatively safe and welcoming state! Surely we can get our numbers up and take in some awesome folks trapped in bad places right now? There is no reason for us to have such a low percentage. We should have at least 1%! So few compared to fascist Tennessee, seriously??

Democrats need to begin with the truth: "My opponents' intent is destruction of the public good and theft and murder of the people who live here, which poisons even the few facts they get right; therefore, there's no point in finding common ground; we should seek only to oppose and defeat them."

One of the biggest blunders (when well-intentioned) and betrayals (when not) in Democratic rhetoric over the years is their impenetrable insistence that what voters respond to is somebody who begins by finding common ground with their opponent, no matter who that opponent is or what that ground is.

Sam Altman's suggestion of a Dyson sphere of that size is about as in touch with reality as the idea that we're going to hit an ice wall before falling off the firmament. To be... fair to Theo Von? I don't think he knows what any of these words mean. Altman is acting like he does, though. Pathetic.

Let's be generous, here, and assume that by the solar system Altman wants to put the sphere outside the orbit of Neptune, and we'll just exclude the kuiper belt entirely. That would be a sphere with a diameter of 6 billion miles. Let's assume that it has the thickness of an eggshell: .3mm thick.

Let's not be in the business of inventing panic when there's actual threats going on, the actual "distraction" from fascism is assuming it has magical powers instead of it being constrained by reality. It's defeatism to suppose that a king is made because people think there is a king.

We play this game every time it's close to an election but I'm fascinated to hear about how Donald Trump is personally going to rip my mail ballot out of my hand in a state with robust mail voting laws and a Democratic legislature. There are so many awful, awful things he *can* do and is doing.

Where can he actually do this, though? Republican officials in Republican-controlled states, yes, but each state runs its own elections. Those elections have been unfair and problematic already in those states! Little can be done to touch most of the swing states and the blue states.

Not every voter will be able to articulate *why* they agree, but I really do believe that most people would have the same reaction. Zohran Mamdani sounding like a vaguely aware human being with charisma and having the reach to contact so many voters is probably what's needed to get a Senate seat.
