For clarification: Neither AEW nor 2300 Arena has signed a collective bargaining agreement with any IATSE Local for their Philadelphia based production. This means it is not an IATSE union production.

BREAKING: Employees at Sunbelt Film and Television Rentals in Toronto (fka William F. White International) have ratified their first collective agreement. This agreement covers workers at a film and television equipment supply company and is the only collective agreement of its kind in Canada.

An IATSE Logo with the words Full press release at iatse.net Sunbelt Film and Television Rentals Employees in Canada Win First Collective Agreement August 22, 2025 TORONTO, ON — Nearly two years after certifying, employees at Sunbelt Film and Television Rentals in Toronto, formerly known as William F. White International, have ratified their first collective agreement with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). This agreement covers workers at a film and television equipment supply company and is the only collective agreement of its kind in Canada. Of the ninety-nine eligible members in the bargaining unit, ninety-seven cast ballots. The vast majority voted in favor of ratification. The workers’ union was able to achieve many of the unit’s priorities in this first agreement, including including wage increases of 12 % over the three-year term, which include retroactive increases back to June 2024 as well as a substantial signing bonus for all employees. “There were times during this long, drawn-out negotiation where it felt like we may never get to this moment. It was the determination of our bargaining committee, and the patience and support of the Sunbelt employees throughout the process, that got us to the finish line,” said Monty Montgomerie, IATSE International Representative and bargaining committee member. “The turnout for the ratification vote and the overwhelming support for the collective agreement is nothing short of spectacular,” said John Lewis, IATSE International Vice President and Director of Canadian Affairs. This ratification is part of a growing wave of unionization in the entertainment industry across the United States and Canada. Workers who want to learn more about joining the movement can visit https://canada.iatse.net/how-to-join/ to connect with an organizer.

This past Friday, Dodger Stadium tour guides distributed leaflets to put a spotlight on how they continue to be unfairly treated. At just $17.87/hr, most struggle to afford food and rent. We stand with our B-192 kin and continue to demand Dodgers management come to the table with a fair deal.

JOINT STATEMENT: IATSE and The Public Theater are proud to announce a tentative agreement on a union contract covering over one hundred production workers at the acclaimed institution!!

New York, NY — The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham; Board Chair Luis Miranda, Jr.) are proud to announce a tentative agreement on a union contract covering over one hundred production workers at the acclaimed institution. The agreement includes meaningful wage increases and comprehensive benefits that recognize the essential contributions of the production crew to The Public’s artistic mission and continued success. Following the union members’ vote, over this summer, the final contract is expected to take effect on September 1, 2025. Both IATSE and The Public Theater commend the fair, thoughtful, and collaborative nature of the negotiations. The mutual respect demonstrated throughout these negotiations is a leading example of the benefits of productive labor-management collaboration. “I'm proud of this agreement, which makes The Public more sustainable and equitable,” said props artisan Rachel Kenner. “I'm excited for all of the opportunities and protections that the union offers us; this whole process has been very collaborative, and I look forward to forging our new path as unionized workers. ABOUT THE PUBLIC THEATER: The Public Theater continues the work of its visionary founder Joe Papp as a civic institution engaging, both on-stage and off, with some of the most important ideas and social issues of today. Conceived over 60 years ago as one of the nation’s first nonprofit theaters, The Public has long operated on the principles that theater is an essential cultural force and that art and culture belong to everyone. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, The Public’s wide breadth of programming includes an annual season of new work at its landmark home at Astor Place, Free Shakespeare in the Park at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park, the Mobile Unit touring throughout New York City’s five boroughs, Public Lab, Public Works, Public Shakespeare Initiative, and Joe’s Pub. Since premiering HAIR in 1967, The Public continues to create the canon of American Theater and is currently represented on Broadway by the Tony Award-winning musicals Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hell’s Kitchen by Alicia Keys and Kristoffer Diaz. Their programs and productions can also be seen regionally across the country and around the world. The Public has received 64 Tony Awards, 195 Obie Awards, 62 Drama Desk Awards, 64 Lortel Awards, 36 Outer Critic Circle Awards, 13 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards, 70 AUDELCO Awards, 6 Antonyo Awards, and 6 Pulitzer Prizes. publictheater.org

Story Syndicate workers won union recognition nearly two years ago. But these @mpeg700.bsky.social members still don’t have a fair contract! We stand with these workers at Tribeca demanding respect, security, and wages that reflect their value. Article via Deadline Hollywood.

Editors Guild Protests Against Nonfiction Producer Story Syndicate At Tribeca Premiere Of OceanGate Submersible Documentary ‘Titan’ EXCLUSIVE: The Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700) has staged a protest against nonfiction production company Story Syndicate outside the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of its OceanGate submersible documentary Titan. Audience members were greeted outside the Village East by Angelika theater Friday evening by guild members distributing fliers that call attention to Story Syndicate’s “anti-union conduct” and put pressure on management amid contentious negotiations. The MPEG brought charges of Unfair Labor Practices against Story Syndicate before the National Labor Relations Board in March, accusing the Harry & Meghan producers of refusal to bargain and bad faith bargaining. “This company brands itself as a champion of progressive filmmaking,” Alan Heim, ACE, President of Motion Picture Editors Guild, said in a statement to Deadline. “But when it comes to honoring the rights of the very workers who bring these stories to life, their actions tell a different story. Editors deserve respect, security, and a contract that reflects their value.” He continued: “We support bold nonfiction storytelling, but the treatment of workers behind the camera should be just as bold, just as fair, and just as progressive.” The MPEG and the Writers Guild of America East won their joint effort to unionize producers and editorial employees at Story Syndicate in 2023. Since then, the MPEG says, management has “repeatedly delayed negotiations, backtracked on offers it had previously placed on the table, and refused to budge from outrageous positions calculated to kill the prospect of a negotiated agreement.” The union also accuses Story Syndicate of insisting upon retaining the right to cut employees’ weekly pay without cause or warning. This union action against the company comes about six months after the Editors Guild and the Writers Guild of America East jointly petitioned Story Syndicate to finalize a fair deal. At the time, more than 250 members of the unions called on the company to “be the industry leaders they are and set a precedent others can follow to create a truly inclusive and transparent work environment.” “Long delays, proposals that are out of line with industry standards, and refusals to respond to important proposals would not reflect well on the company’s stated principles,” read the petition, which included signatures from Lilly Wachowski, John Walsh, Tom Fontana, and Josh Gondelman.

STATEMENT: IATSE commends Copyright Office's AI report limiting fair use in generative AI, questions legality of attempt to fire US Copyright Office Director Shira Perlmutter, and opposes House GOP proposal to banning state-level AI safeguards. Full statement here: iatse.net/three-us-pol...

Three US Policy Developments Regarding Artificial Intelligence for Behind-the-Scenes Entertainment Workers 1. Regarding the U.S. Copyright Office’s “Copyright and Artificial Intelligence, Part 3: Generative AI Training” Report: “We commend the U.S. Copyright Office’s recent release of Copyright and Artificial Intelligence, Part 3: Generative AI Training. The report states that AI training is not categorically fair use and that fair use determinations depend on context and degree. This aligns with well-established case law, including the recent Supreme Court decision in Warhol v. Goldsmith. The report concludes that This is a developing situation, and whether in fact Perlmutter's firing was in retaliation for releasing the AI report is unclear. However, it wouldn’t surprise us to learn that tech billionaires are wielding their influence to interfere in our government for their own financial benefit. Shira Perlmutter has served with distinction as Register of Copyrights and she must be reinstated at the behest of Congress.” 3. IATSE Strongly Opposes Proposed Ban on State-Level AI Regulations Contained in House Republican Budget Reconciliation Package “We strongly oppose a provision in the House Republican budget reconciliation package that would impose a ten-year ban on enforcement or enactment of all state-level artificial intelligence (AI) policies. This proposal, again backed by tech billionaires and corporations, seeks to override the will of the American people for common-sense AI safeguards, transfer sole authority to a historically gridlocked and slow-moving Congress, and delete all existing state AI policy to make the wild west AI landscape even more lawless. So-called red states and blue states alike have been proactive in addressing the challenges posed by AI. For instance, Tennessee's ELVIS Act protects artists from unauthorized AI-generated voice and likeness reproductions. New York's AI Bill of Rights aims to ensure transparency and accountability in automated decision-making. In just the 2024 legislative session alone, at least 31 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands adopted AI resolutions or enacted AI legislation. As of today, the House budget reconciliation bill is a proposal, but we’re monitoring and there’s still time for us to push back, and for the bill to change. Removing the ban on state AI protections is one of many of IATSE’s key priorities with respect to the budget reconciliation package. We urge lawmakers to reject this overreach and support policies that uphold fairness, transparency, and respect for American jobs in the creative industries.”
