Tri-X is definitely more forgiving - TMX gets thin very quickly if underexposed. TMZ is less vulnerable to that, which is one reason that I find it more useful than the other T-Max films (though I do love TMX when it works). On a daily basis, I mostly shoot Kentmere or Aviphot - cheap and robust.

I'd wonder how well it keeps, though if you use it as an everyday film that wouldn't be such an issue. A bit decadent, I suppose. (That said, I find D3200 to be too "mushy," at least in my hands...I get grain like oatmeal. I prefer P3200. But many do like it, and it's good to have options....)

Thanks! I shoot more cubic than tabular, but am personally a fan of TMX and TMZ. TMZ, in particular. The tonality you mention is one reason; it also has great acutance. The results look like a slower film in Rodinal, but I can shoot at EI 3200....

Cell phone app. Given that you already have a cell phone, it's the cheapest option, and in my experience they do fairly well. When I use a different external meter, the reason is more vanity/not wanting to risk dropping the phone than accuracy.

Obsessing over the cameras is not sufficient. You must also, simultaneously, obsess over the film *and* the cameras - because they are interdependent. Only this way lies sufficient madness. Also, if you are bringing the Leica, bring a medium format folder; it's the pistol/shotgun combo you need.

It often feels like a waste, but I've definitely had images that were failing in color, and that were great in B+W. It does, however, feel pretty decadent to label one's B+W image with "Portra 800" or the like. One is tempted to make a "Velvia in Monochrome" series just for the horror factor.

Yes, I have an astoundingly high failure rate with those things (but then keep trying, because I refuse to submit to the authority of a metal canister). The "lick the film" trick usually works if that fails; it's crass, but, per Ferris Bueller, is sometimes necessary.

I have found it quite salutary, though I've used it more in 120. In some ways a bit like XX, but smoother; it does well on micro-contrast, while having a somewhat bloomier overall rendering. (In XTOL, anyway.) Hard to tell if I like it more than K100, but it's an excellent film (IMHO).

Heh. I used to pry them apart, but these days I carefully pull the film and lovingly save the intact canister for bulk loading. This may imply that I have entered a phase of trash hoarding, but I prefer to interpret it as "sage frugality."

To live, as a thinking being, is a choice. To make something of one's time, that is one's own, is a choice. Oblivion has always been an alternative, for those who have desired it - AI simply allows the dead to retain the appearance of the living.
