Just the pens I took to work with me yesterday. I usually post these over on IG. (I don’t post as many pictures here because I never know what to put in the alt text. 🥴)
That was in the case of some pens I got that had been left in a drawer with ink in them for a real long time. Decades. Ink is water-based, so it doesn’t really take more than that to clean them in normal situations.
Yeah, not Windex. Pen flush has a little ammonia in it, but a very small amount. I’ll add that if you can just soak the nib and feed that’s usually enough. I have just left a nib in a bit of water in a shot glass for a few days and it gradually he-hydrated the ink so I could flush it out.
The ear ones are actually better than the nasal ones. They are bigger and more flexible so they’re easier to squeeze. Nasal are okay, but ear is superior.
Snatching a pen out of your hand is some wild behavior. I have a hard time imagining an adult doing that to me. 😵💫
Or, you know, take actual photos of actual products instead of this AI junk. 🤷🏼♂️
I’ve used the red and green Infinity inks, and they’re pretty impressive at not drying out.
Nope. I use a variety of letter forms that I like, but I never write in full cursive. I dropped that in grade school and never went back.
I had Robert Oster’s Honeybee in that one for a while. It’s a pretty good match.
It’s always both with liquid inks. Performance is a combo of nib-paper-ink, and mismatches will feel bad or look bad.
Feeds are really the way to go here. Find the feeds for those fandoms you’re into and you’ll see lots of posts. And you can swipe across different feeds without having them all mixed into one list.
Medium is my go-to most of the time, too. It’s a solid size that’s useful for lots of things.

Oops, I remembered incorrectly. I reviewed that ink back in 2014, and I wrote that it was on the wetter side and tended to bleed some. That was a long time ago, so I should try it again at some point.
I hope that combo works out for you. I usually find the Nahvalur Original nibs to be one the dry side, and I remember that ink being dry, too. Have you tried it yet?
I often think the Nahvur nibs (aside from the Nautilus-level ones) are kinda dry. The TWSBI 580s feel better to me. That particular one is a special edition, and it costs more. The typical 580 price is more like $55.
That’s a Zebra G nib on there. Those are really dip pen nibs, and they will always rust out like that. They’re not meant to be wet all the time. Definitely the metal’s fault and not the ink.
(Short standard international cartridges, to be exact.)
Soaking the nib will do the trick, too, and creates even less waste. (Unless it’s like ebonite or something vintage.
And they’re good people. Real small shop where everything is made in San Francisco.
Rickshaw makes these awesome sleeves and carrying cases with soft plush interiors Galen Leather makes some great hard-sided cases in leather and this one soft case that expands on the ends.

Yep. That’s what it is! This is a dip nib, and not a fountain pen nib, but it’s the same kind of idea.

It depends one the pen and the ink, honestly. I use them a lot, but some brands (like Robert Oster) tend to be more cloggy, and some pens (like the TWSBI Eco) seem to be extra good at not clogging. A clog can be a little inconvenient, but it’s not really a big deal. Easily fixable.
Ah! I think you’re referring to the sheen! Shimmer is little particles of very fine glitter. Sheen is a property of some dyes used in ink making that can give a metallic sheen on top of the ink, or at the edges. Maureen is a sheener.
Lamy is sold all over in the USA. And $15 is a little higher than I usually see it. The 50ml glass bottles are usually more like $12. Still, I have to sell my 30ml plastic bottles of Diamine for at least $8, so not that much of a difference. 🤷🏼♂️
Modern iron galls are still acidic, but they’re much tamer than the originals, so you can still use them with steel nibs. I wouldn’t leave them in the pen for years, but they’re usually fine.
Your Maureen has shimmer in it? I’m pretty sure mine doesn’t.
Oh, that came from Papier Plume, too. My secret is that I use paraffin oil instead of alcohol. It works way better that way.
You can get the wax separately for sure. I think it’s just the seals that were part of a pack.
I like their waxes a lot.

There are SO many good pen makers out there! Especially in the small-maker community. And lots of great stores and vendors, too. The bad ones are really the exception to the rule.

Yeah, this looks just like if someone popped a Kaweco cap onto an Eco’s body. I have a version of this in brass that a friend sent me (since they know I wouldn’t buy one). I really think anyone familiar with those two pens would recognize what is going on there. 🤷🏼♂️
I can’t be mad at a company (or any designer) being upset that someone is using their designs without permission. It’s one of the big problems with AI art, and it’s always seemed weird to me that this community is real mad about AI art and largely ignores the copycats. 🤷🏼♂️
Wasn’t the Kaweco thing that the time they got tired of Moonman copying their designs and trademarked the name somewhere so Moonman had to change their name?

Fountain pen cleaners have a soap component, so it can make your ink run wetter if you don’t rinse them out really well after. That’ll lead to your lines looking wider on the page.
Sometimes I have to manually refresh the feeds on Bluesky by pulling down on the text. Looks normal on my end, tho.
There are some awesome inks coming out of china from small makers like Hosia and Kitty Inkpot.

I have several of them, and I like them fine. They’re really big, and not as refined as a Pilot, but they’re also a much newer model and they’re very lightweight. (I have a video or two about them on my YouTube channel.)

Their pens aren’t good, but they do have a couple of inks that I really like. I’m just really disappointed about their use of AI and the HP kickstarter. 🙄
Yep! My favorites are by Artifex Wax and Papier Plume. Artifex seems to be moving their store to Shopify right now, and the url is odd, but google will find them. (Just don’t buy hard wax if you’re intending to mail it.)

Neat! It looks like their “natural” starts off way warmer than my Galen leather “undyed” stuff. My Paper Republic is a dark green, and has also aged really well.
I love mine, too. There’s just something so satisfying about how it feels, and it’s the brain child of a couple of my favorite people.

OR: soak and use one of the bulb syringes. I cut off the back of a Lamy cartridge to stick the bulb’s nozzle into and make that connection better. Also, often just a little bit of tap water on the nib can revive a dried out pen. Hot water and spit aren’t great for fountain pens. (Melting and 🦠.)
I’m glad your pen is working, but: It’s easier and safer to just let your Lamy pen’s nib and grip section soak in a cup of room temp water and then use the converter to push water through it until it’s clear.

I guess one bonus to switching to pencils is that any old notebook will work fine with graphite. Or are there some that just don’t play well with them?
