Aha, "kabuki theatre", JVL's influence is expanding. His stint as "Sarah Longwell" has infected you George!

I really don't think so. Trumpster has lower approval ratings in the UK than in the USA.

But aren't both things true? It simply depends on your perspective. There is undoubtedly a slant, but all news organisations do this to some degree or other?

Just been reminded, there was Pete the cat, in Door into Summer by Robert Heinlein. As I recall he went to each door in his house to check out which one had the good weather.

There was a "cat" in Red Dwarf, a long time in the future though

One might hesitate to say that that was why they were elected! Perhap it was like the Johnson vs Corbyn 2019 election, simply anyone else to get the Tory candidates out; which explains Labour's vote share?

Undoubtedly, but how long (14 years?) does the public give them to tidy up the mess. They could (carefully) raise the money MMT/tax rises/long term debt etc. However, as a nation, do we have the people and skills for what is required. Dearth of construction workers for a start.

It is what happens when there is no money left after 14 years+ of "efficiency" savings. Alternatively, it's not been reported to maintenance. Perhaps, it is simply pragmatic so as not waste the soap prior to it being fixed.

Mass production via automation one would hope require fewer workers. The new skills would be putting together the housing kits plus the skills for maintaining them.

Part of it is a lot of people living by themselves...

The collapse in local council house building is a major cause of our current situation... www.statista.com/statistics/7...

One might hope that if we had "radical" planning reform (where radical means some/any!) a decent apprenticeship system and lots of youngsters who want to work in the house building system, then yes, I think we would be in with a chance. But "what" kind of housing (council housing)?
itsonlysoftware.bsky.social (@itsonlysoftware.bsky.social) reply parent
"Masd", => "mass", sigh
itsonlysoftware.bsky.social (@itsonlysoftware.bsky.social) reply parent
Building is part of the solution, but for that part who is there to do the building? Looking at the demographics, there are a lot of skilled builders who are going to be retiring over the next decade and a dearth of youngsters. Perhaps it is about time we finally started masd manufacturing houses?
