This is the argument for D’s to lay low and let R’s collapse under their ineptitude. Alarmism grants Trump the power his base craved. But rising prices, failing services, and constant drumbeat of personal corruption exposed will sink him. Federal spending is up $300B from a year ago. For what?

It’s not to lay low. It’s to control the narrative. It’s something Dem leadership hasn’t/won’t do. It requires an offensive tactic in issues that make Trump vulnerable. Dems respond weakly instead of going on offense.

It’s not the talking that will change minds, but the consequences of Republican policies, which will take a few more months to really land. Meanwhile, fighting with Trump just distracts from those consequences. People put up with anything when they are at war, consumed with the enemy.

I was in favor of the impeachments and the criminal prosecutions. As you say, it is an essential duty. But now without those powers at hand, I do not think theatrical opposition will help. Better to let him hold the stage and the responsibility for his results.
