That said, the character is an extension of awful, brutal politics, which makes it hard to root for him. Slow Horses does a really good take on the spies-amid-bad-politics angle.
Casino Royale reinvigorated the character because of the ballyhooed “blunt instrument” aspect, with “spikes” of action and violence amid espionage and strange intrigues. Parkour! Casinos! Femmes fatale! Evil mastermind ruses! By contrast, Skyfall was a house with a bunch of guns in it.
