Zero problem with someone having to drive if they're a couple of miles or more from their kids' school. My ire is for the sort I see 'round here driving less than 1,000 yards.
I'm not sure if my disappointment and growing distaste for this government is equal to my volcanic hatred of the last one yet, but I think we're well on the way. The thing that's really surprised me is how quickly I find myself far enough down that road to need to stop for a wee.
I don't know, I'm not a parent, but it seems to be driven at least in part by tabloid hysteria and the rise of social media. There's also the entitlement of the modern age to factor in - if one has a wanky car, one must be seen driving it as much as possible.
There is that. Apparently there's a pervert in every bush now, meaning that parents are forced to drive their kids EVERYWHERE and park wherever they damn well please.
I don't know if loving this stuff will prove to be a wholly generational thing, in the meantime it really lifts my spirits. I've recently started buying some of the less-regarded or sought-after old Puffin paperbacks again, before anyone else cottons on.
I'm so glad to see them Rose, huge thanks for sharing! Clearly there were myriad factors powering the wild, expressive joy on display in so much illustration from the '50s to '70s that may never converge in the same way again, but that era should be celebrated as loudly as possible.
I don't have kids, so I must admit I get a little jolt of happiness knowing that everywhere else gets a little quieter when they've all trudged back to the learning mill.

That's actually reassuring to hear. I don't think I've ever paid MS for anything (aside from the occasional Windows licence when buying a new PC, but it's easy enough to find a cheap key reseller these days).
Obviously it takes a bit of adjustment to the slightly different way it does things, but it's fast, fluid and stable - and more importantly it's a one-off purchase, there's no subscription.

Yeah, I've got AP and AD - they're both great. I'd only gone back to using PS for a year to finish a couple of specific projects anyway, so I've no hesitation in dropping Adobe again.
I ditched it the year before last, then needed it for a brush set I was creating. That didn't really go anywhere as it turned out everyone was dropping Adobe anyway! Fortunately my one year sub is up before the price hike kicks in, so I'm off back to Affinity.
Huh. Just had an e-mail from Adobe saying they're hiking the price of the most basic Photoshop sub by 50% from October. Fuck off.

On the plus side, I think it's more weighted with promise than any other time of year . A feeling that the supernatural is closer, the thought of dark nights with fire, gloriously pummelling gales, crystalline mornings and before long (if you've been good), a stack of presents.
