Can't wait for them all to continue saying it, having ignored the sign - or, even better, to ask when we started opening again as if it's a new initiative and we've not had the same opening hours for decades.

People keep coming in to St Nicks and telling us we're "never open" or that they think it's a closed church, so I got petty about it.

At every stage I did what the state asked me to, even though it was humiliating, degrading and cruel. And it kept moving the goalposts, and reneging on the agreements it made, whilst continuing to hold me to them even when they are now mutually contradictory. (12/13)

As it's still valid, presumably if I don't keep following it, I am also breaking the law and subject to arrest. The law of the land simultaneously requires me to be both a man and a woman and if I do either then I am breaking the law and subject to arrest. (11/13)

In April of 2025 the state turned round and told me that I had been mistaken. That it never regarded me as female. That I was male the whole time. That the marriage it annulled because it was a same sex marriage was never a same sex marriage (but it stays annulled). (8/13)

The Quakers are doing exactly what all public services are legally allowed to do even if the EHRC wants to pretend they're not: say gender-based toilets are inclusive and for anyone bothered by that as a matter of belief, there are stand-alone cubicles that they are very free to use. 1/

I regret it's not exactly affordable but I've long used the Google Pixel range because it allows good control over things like exposure and white/black point that'll assist with archival photos (and in my case church photography) - almost like a real camera, but in your pocket.

Click through out more about the zine, and if you're a church, I hope you can find space on your welcome table for a copy. That's the point. It's Communion. We don't keep it for ourselves. We don't charge money for it. It's supposed to be there to offer hope and possibility when people need it.
Jay Hulme (@jayhulmepoet.bsky.social) reply parent
I have spent months bringing this zine into being, and I'm so grateful to everyone who trusted the vision - of something that's not there to convert people to Christianity, but something that simply says "we exist" and offers some bits of queer theology to a world that thinks that's impossible.
Jay Hulme (@jayhulmepoet.bsky.social)
For too long the world of theological magazines and leaflets has been utterly dominated by slick corporate mass produced hatred. It's time for inclusive Christians to lean into the long Queer history of underground printing, zine making, resource sharing, and other such physical tangible activism.

This problem of Schroedinger's Reserved Sacrament leads to some interesting theological questions, like: Should we genuflect? Because it's probably best to err on the side of caution and assume Jesus is in and genufley... but if he's not... does that then become idolatrous?
Jay Hulme (@jayhulmepoet.bsky.social)
Someone has stolen the key to the Aumbry at church. Until the locksmith breaks into it we don't know if they also stole the reserved sacrament or not. Which means that currently we have Schroedinger's Reserved Sacrament. Until we can confirm it either way, Jesus both IS and IS NOT in there.

It's this principled decision to withdraw as a judge, by Dunin, that seems to have been key. It brought more attention to the selection of Boyne, which led to both an increase in negative comments and the withdrawal by three more authors. Once three authors and a judge had withdrawn, more followed.
