We can still use everything else, including fans, electric blankets. If we had a freeze we would drain our pipes & turn off water at night, to spare ourselves bursting pipes. We might turn the system on for a bit for some relief, but not for long periods.
But still have to manage things carefully when we have an outage. Our electric system cuts off from the grid during an outage so that we can use our solar & batteries. During a heat or cold wave, our system can't operate for long on just PV & batteries, so we turn off our heat pump.
A lot of people assume that having solar means you have electricity during an outage. They don't think about the harm that occurs to linemen when electricity is flowing toward the grid during an outage. We're in Texas, & have solar & batteries
