Was gathering tools for some yard work this morning and literally did the whole smashing your face by stepping in a rake thing and managed to bloody my lip
…It’s the epitome of being unable to pray the Eucharist alone. But even so, sometimes the wordiness of the prayers can overwhelm and I just long for silence. Or at least quiet. I sometimes feel this way about hymns and other liturgical music, too (offertory anthems, pre-/post-ludes, chants, etc.)
Sooo often. And like @gaudynight78.bsky.social said, I often just let different phrases catch me at different times. That’s one of the ways I lean into congregational prayer is that each person is caught by a different word, and together we are often caught by the fullness of the prayer…
Eh, I’ve sung it plenty and in places that do it quite well. Just doesn’t really speak to me but I recognize it’s beauty
We did this for the summer. Or at least printed an outline/pg number version that stayed in the pew, with a weekly insert of music, hymns, notices. Also printed a few full-text large-print for those with vision issues. Better roll-out would have given better success but ppl quickly adjusted
I guess my depression is finally good for something with it being on the risk-factor list for covid vaccines.

Can’t see them in the picture, but there are three rabbits and four blue jays in that small garden plot this morning and I’m just sitting on my patio drinking my coffee and grateful for this moment. Lots of other shit in the world right now, but that’s a few square feet of goodness right there.

Health systems have a lot of parallel systems that usually will only update the name in that one area, but then other name will show up in the other areas.
The one that got me was the NYS testing. We updated everything in the district but then the state tests would come with wrong name. We eventually got someone at the school to contact the state, and was then proactive about checking before the test reached a teachers hand & they called out wrong name
Oh yes, and there are so many layers to some systems. You’ll think you got them all, and then suddenly the former name pops up again a year or two later. So many layers to systems

Of course, some of the busy-ness is because my duties normally include parish events (and we have extra bc of rector leaving) and we’re also beginning our program year with annual Ministry Fair the week after he leaves, so it’s also just normal August-September stuff. Busy, but also in good shape.
Tired: A check dropped in the plate. Wired: Scanning a QR code on leaflet. Inspired: Cash in chip bag discretely handed over in handshake line after service. ⚓️
I’ve been passing some things on to other folks, and the wardens are really great and supportive. Plans are in place and being firmed up, but there’s also still going to be things that come to me that usually don’t. And yes, the bishop even brought up my compensation during this time.
We have a couple of great wardens who are already showing they have my back. We’re working on hiring the interim, and even with decent boundaries, there are things that will fall to me that usually don’t. Not overwhelming by any means, but definitely more than I’ve been doing.
I have somehow lost a slew of contacts out of my phone. No rhyme or reason about who…some I’ve had saved for 10 years, some just a few weeks but it’s a LOT of names gone
So DC has become a sanctuary city for long guns.
yesterday was the first day it hit me just how much work needs to be done before our rector leaves in a couple weeks, and just how much more work I’ll be doing after that happens. Not sure when an interim will be named, but till then a lot falls to me as Assistant Rector. ⚓️

Essentially a combo of BBQ, salt & vinegar, and sour cream and onion flavors all gloriously joined together on one chip. A true and edible case of the total being greater than the sum of its parts.

I would be curious to see historical averages of years served per call. It does seem there are very few tenures of 20+ years now, but I wonder a bit if we remember those from the past more because they stick out as abnormal or because there were genuinely more.

So often when writing sermons, I have a song in my head that hits the mood of the scripture and what I write so well, and yet I struggle to actually find a way to quote the lyrics. I’m almost quoting the essence/mood of the song more than the lyrics.

Took this last year when at Taize on sabbatical with my family. Absolutely love the fine detail of John and Jesus meeting each other in this.
I knew several of those victims from my time in Corpus, including the couple from like my second or third wedding as a priest so felt I had to do something. It’s been a lot of resurfaced memories these last few days. Lots of love to you and your sister, and the whole state you love so much.
I had that realization for a couple days but the number of missing released today caught me off guard. I knew it would be high, but still. I helped in the search after Wimberley ‘15 &we knew pretty quickly it was recovery not rescue. Is such a unique heartache & grief to know but still wonder &look
Over 100 dead and now reports of those missing still are over 160. So much more heartbreak still to come in Texas 💔

Yeah, I think that’s the one. It was so intense and I couldn’t look away. It was such an honest portrayal of dysfunction around alcoholism. This wedding episode, with everyone giving light to their fears and everyone being found despite being hidden…it’d be hard to preach it bc so much is there

No apology necessary! I enjoy gardening but am quite bad at it so I’ll always take free advice 🤣 We put in a bunch oh hydrangeas last year as well and I’ve been adding some acidifier to help with those and have added some to the blueberries too
