Our rector announced he’s leaving a couple of weeks ago, and today the diocese announced the transitions person is leaving. Fun times. But, if anybody is interested in a larger church in Rochester, NY keep your eyes open this winter/early spring. Lots of good things going on here! ⚓️

My first TEC rector told me that rectors were appointed "in perpetuity," meaning until retirement. Times have changed.🕯😮‍💨

I was a rector for 14 years, and in the Diocese of Los Angeles, rector could be removed only with the agreement of 2 out of 3 The Vestry The Bishop and, I think, maybe the Standing Committee.

When Fr Atlee told me that rectors stayed, he meant they didn't go after other positions. He was assuring me that he'd stay. ☺️

I would be curious to see historical averages of years served per call. It does seem there are very few tenures of 20+ years now, but I wonder a bit if we remember those from the past more because they stick out as abnormal or because there were genuinely more.
