I think some places in Canada have additional tax on foreigners. Here in BC there is a vacancy tax. So when you own two homes that you live in, you pay a vacancy tax on one you don't live >6 months/year. It's 0.5% for Canadians & perm res but 2% for foreigners if they don't rent the house out >6mos

Minimum wage was brought out during the Depression. Min wage was enough for a man to support his family. That was what we would call a "living" wage in 2025. Min wage in Canada is $17/hour. It's still below a "living" wage which would be $26 BUT we have proper medicare here
