I agree with you 100%! Which is why I don’t think it makes sense to talk about the left as “welcoming” whereas the right is not. Neither are welcoming to people who disagree with issues that they view as hard lines for their ideology.
That is a good point. Maybe my overall takeaway is that people who self-identify as having an ideology in opposition to another ideology are unlikely to be particularly welcoming in general? I’m amazed at how anyone posting about how tolerant their group is never stands up to scrutiny.

Look—I am very sympathetic to the skepticism toward moderates and centrists, especially MLK Jr’s, but the thread of leftists celebrating how much they’re willing to compromise in a thread where literally none of them will compromise is a *chef’s kiss* example of online leftism.
Also this thread is filled with leftists *and you* saying that none of you would compromise and vote for JB based upon statements he’s made about Israel, despite the fact that he supports blocking arms sales (and has been accused of funding pro-Palestinian groups).
I voted for socialists for city council and in primaries. I have voted for ballot measures that have been mostly punitive to me. I’d vote for Mamdani if I lived in New York, even though I think many of his policy ideas are counterproductive to what even he wants.
