I donât think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make whatâs happening now look like childâs play. And people are disappearing.

This isnât merely expressive harassment. When we make it harder for them to do evil they are less able to do evil. When protesters here forced them to work through the night they were not on the job kidnapping people the next day.

I was there last night, w/ protesters trying to stop vans from removing detainees. I wish that many more people would come out, it actually makes a difference. Because I.C.E. agents were in Newark 'til 3am on Friday morning, they were short staffed in NYC on Friday, so fewer kidnappings yesterday.

These cases are both free speech cases. It is a violation of international human rights law to punish acts of civil disobedience in a way that inhibits expressive speech. Joannaâs rights were violated in this way; and her harsh sentence has an inhibiting effect on others.

According to what Iâve heard reported, people who accept the pardon can be subpoenaed and compelled to testify. They cannot argue that their testimony could self incriminate. People who reject pardon can still plead fifth amendment.

The triad in my head is Adaptation, Mitigation, and Reparations. And the relationship between the 3 is that all 3 are needed for any climate crisis response to be meaningful. The time when any amount of M can reduce the need for A is past. But no amount of A will ensure a future without M. ?
