Not really. 50 meters down the temperature is almost completely decoupled from climate. It’s a huge reservoir of heat, which is pumped into or out of to condition human space. Geothermal heat pump is a perfectly accurate description.

I don’t know exactly where you live, but there’s nowhere in Ohio more than 100 miles from a DC fast charger. Just get an EV!
Johnny Vector (@johnnyvector.bsky.social) reply parent
One reason is you don’t really need it. I’ve planned trips to everywhere I want to go assuming the ID Buzz’s 235 mile range (which is more like 200 at highway speed). The places that are tricky are like Canyon De Chelly or the Wind River Mountains. Central Ohio is fine.
Johnny Vector (@johnnyvector.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s not precisely true. It takes more energy to get up a mountain, but as long as you have enough to make it to the high point, you get most of that (like 80% - 90%) back on the way down.
Johnny Vector (@johnnyvector.bsky.social) reply parent
What mountain are you thinking of that a 30 kWh battery won’t get you up?
Johnny Vector (@johnnyvector.bsky.social) reply parent
Yep. Also existing EVs have more than enough range for >95% of people. And most people don’t have any idea how long they spend stopped on their family road trips. There’s no need to charge as fast as you can fill a tank if it takes 15 minutes to get the kids back into the car.
