This was why one of my brothers withdrew his paper from publication. He couldn't replicate his results. He realised there was something funky with his methodology, and started over again. It's what ethical researchers do.

Australia solved the issue of states gerrymandering electoral boundaries by developing the Australian Electoral Commission. The AEC manages ALL elections (and can be commissioned for non government work). No fraud. Even funding levels are now limited.

My lovely old girl Daisy is a sad pup ... she had minor surgery yesterday, a tendon nick or 'tenotomy' to relieve tension on a toe that has been causing trouble for weeks. By releasing tension, my vet is hoping the toe will pop up, so the nail doesn't rub her next toe to the point of bleeding.

3/ pilots and fire crew were fed and watered for free at the hotels and cafes in the whole region. Fire crews were being dropped into remote areas with a giant flexi bucket of water and tools to dig out and drown fires that had gone underground in the peat swamps!

One of my uncles migrated to Murica from Australia, with the thought of living close to one of his sons, who was some sort of IT whiz. He lasted a week before coming back, horrified by open carry of military style weapons.

Fire fighters commented on the horror of it. There were crews going around dispatching fire crippled animals. It would have been dreadful for them, even though it was to prevent further suffering.
LJ (@jolly57la.bsky.social) reply parent
In the last round of widespread fires in Australia, in the 2019-20 season, it's estimated that as many as 3 billion animals perished or were displaced. That's birds, reptiles, frogs, mammals. It was thought a species of frog had become extinct from the fires, but a tiny pocket survived.

The fleet of helicopters w buckets was stationed at an airstrip a couple of paddocks away, while the fixed wing water bombers took off from a grass runway over 1 km long. They needed the length to get up with a full load pumped in from a fleet of water tankers. It took weeks to put out the fires.

I spent 6 weeks living in smoke here in NW Tasmania, after an 'unprecedented' dry year had left the high country tinder dry. Normally, it won't burn due to all the rain. But lightening storms started dozens of fires in areas so remote crews were dropped in by helicopter. /2

I'll say it again... I've seen a dramatic increase in behaviours that tick the boxes. It's not just better diagnosis. I've taught thousands of children over decades, so can track the changes.
LJ (@jolly57la.bsky.social) reply parent
Please pay attention. I KNOW VACCINES DON'T CAUSE AUTISM. I was suggesting reasons for the apparent rise in the diagnosis of autism. (With 44 years of teaching experience, I've seen a significant change in numbers of chn who could be autistic)

I was talking about autism. I know vaccines save lives. My mum lost a brother to measles, and I know people who survived polio, just.
LJ (@jolly57la.bsky.social) reply parent
I suspect modern lifestyles and environmental aspects have much to do with it. Diet - food now loaded with 'numbers', with many diets almost entirely processed food. Exercise - we walked, everywhere. Or rode our bikes. Entertainment - played outside, not glued to a screen. Parenting styles
LJ (@jolly57la.bsky.social) reply parent
