Every tyrant in history has sought to stifle criticism of himself and his regime. But America was founded on criticism. American democracy was built on dissent. Every institution, group, firm, or individual that surrenders to Trump’s wanton tyranny invites more of it.
How do they do it in the older parts of the city where they can't seperate lanes? Genuine interest, I live in Prague and the city centre is always the biggest challenge.
You can't teach U.S. history without "divisive" narratives. Slavery wasn't "unifying." The Japanese incarceration wasn't "unifying." The anti-immigrant Operation Wetback (real name) wasn't "unifying." It's history's job to tell the truth, not cover up past racism to pave the way for future racism.

This is our job as human beings: to care for and protect vulnerable people around the world. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire. Children are starving to death as aid remains extremely limited and vital resources like fuel, clean water, and health care dwindle down to nothing.

The USSR suppressed all of Eastern Europe. Stalin invaded Poland in a pact with the Nazis. They sent people to camps. Hard to see a difference between the two. As a theory we can argue about the merits of communism, but did Stalin really make life better for people in the USSR and Eastern Europe?
Just to summarize, having open borders and an inclusive society is a net positive for societies as well as being morally and ethically the right thing to do. Keep that in mind when arguing the sematics of immigration policy, keep the big picture in mind and don't get distracted.
Of course not everything is sunshine and butterflies. But even the negative fades over time.

The PVV is islamophobic, but the country was known for tolerance in the 70's and 80's when I grew up there. We have a history we have not sufficiently reckoned with. We are a democracy and we do learn from our mistakes. There are enough good people in the country to get it back on track.
