If my garden were bigger I'd be out more regularly...mum 'rescued' quite a few 'broken' stems from Alton Towers gardens back in the old days before the massive amusement park was built.

Lavender can be cut back to the woody part of the stems and rosemary I'd do by about one third although my neighbour's hasn't grown much this year due to lack of water. I pruned it after winter flowers had finished, back in March.

I carry some small sealable plastic bags with me and sometimes small scissors especially to put cuttings in, or those bits that "fall off" when you're walking past them in a fancy garden or garden centre...you know how it is...

We've had quite a bit of gentle rain on and off this past few days which has softened up the ground nicely so I'm confident most will in fact sink into the ground. All my plants outdoors have perked up no end, including a rose that was really suffering.

I just about had time to take cuttings from 2 coleus at my friends, and another shrub whose name I don't know but I like it before we got rained off. Everything's in little glasses now on the kitchen windowsill. She also gave me a very dark red cherry tomato, fab flavour, so I've taken seeds out.

I witnessed THE most torrential downpour at 13.15hrs today whilst at friend's. We literally couldn't see a metre out the windows. Lots of lightening and it's still raining now. Massive puddles at the side of the road and streams running accross so some aquaplaning on the way home. Van's clean tho.

In the old days before social media I was involved in various campaigns for women, Greenpeace, save the Whale etc. We flyposted like our lives depended on it, paper memes if you like. We sprayed symbols. Little music bands do it now. Big posters still attract a LOT of attention but aren't cheap.

I find ironing a very soothing thing to do and listen to the radio whilst doing it. I also do a lot of dressmaking so need a good reliable lightweight iron. I think I've found one at Argos, but the problem there is that I can't hold it, examine it closely and really see if it's going to be right.

The problem is landlordism and the chronic shortage of housing. That which does go on the market and which may be just the thing for a young couple is snapped up by landlords. Some action has already been taken by Labour re this, and I'm sure there'll be more to come.
