I follow and applaud what it has done, but I feel the job of a government is to lead, not to slavishly follow what purports to be public opinion. I agree 100% that the media are to blame for the toxicity, but I hate to see the LP just accept bigotry and bile as part of the electoral landscape,

Bile/bigotry are there, it exists, people like that exist, we all know that and until brexit they were pretty much under the radar, then small boats took advantage of losing the controls EU had with UK on migrants, then traffickers swooped in to take advantage, then ReFUK/Tories started squealing

trying to deflect on the fact it was THEIR efforts bigging up brexit pre referendum and after which caused it all. Labour can't afford to totally ignore it, but it's not going to be led by the nose by ReFUK and the gleefully complicit press every day when they have other jobs to do as well.

Completely agree that it was the Brexit lies that led us here, & the fact that the media refuse to mention this. And given that asylum seekers are such a small percentage of inward migration, they should not be front page news every day. But the loathsome Farage seems to be the darling of the press.
