I would also add, TV numbers still say they are the biggest league, viewership wise, in North America. If anything, LigaMX is helping elevate MLS by playing Leagues Cup. I think MLS in a decade, can be the best league in NA, but owners have to raise the salary cap if they want to make that true.
Well, I meant about elevating LigaMX. I think they have issues, but their top teams are better financed than ours. Could they do some things to level the field and make it more competitive? Yeah, but we still struggle to beat them away in Mexico. Is there a gap? Yes. Is it big? Not as before.

I would also think trick takers could be a gateway as well since people may have played Spades or Hearts earlier in their youth and there are some modern trick takers that take that mold and update the rules a bit.

I would argue sometimes it is hard to go beyond surface level critical thought because when we talk about theme and its attachment to its mechanisms in a game, we have to judge if there was actual intent to marry both to fit its subject matter or it was just convenient to use the theme as dressing.

If LigaMX honchos could have their way, they would play all LigaMX games in the US. Leagues Cup is just an excuse to get into the US market. That said, just stop playing LC and elevate CCC. If MLS moves to the fall schedule, CCC would coincide with the most in-form MLS teams. Much more even.

That said, eventually there will be more ambitious owners than the old guard as expansion continues. It might take a half decade, but I think the investment part will kick up again once the 2026 WC happens and we reach 32 teams. Also, can't escape the CBA with player's union. Should shift things.
Eh, I think that's part of it. They do invest (not all) but they also must want to go the slow approach since they haven't had to drop $300-500M on an expansion fee. Those other owners probably want to speed run profitability quicker to recoup that fee.
They have fallen behind because they've had to carry the load the longest before the Apple deal and MLS new franchise model. They've had to catch up with expansion teams with a solid foundation to build from (SSS & academies) while the old guard had to retool into that.

Callender hasn't played much this year, had injuries, and is in $300-400k a year for a backup goal keeper close to his prime years. In a way it's good for Callender and Miami to get a clean slate, and also a bit bad as well since he's still a back up, but maybe has a chance at the starting spot.

If the game plan is to loosen Bouanga on the counter, since they love to sit back, they would be better served with a 10/8 that can land a 40yard pass on a dime to his left foot. And if their MO is to sign aging players with a name, Luca Modric was right there.
He was a square hole for a round peg. LAFC has a knack of signing the wrong type of DP player to fill a spot of importance. And when they absolutely have a good player in that position (Zimmerman; Arango) they inexplicably throw it out the window for something "shinier" with no luck (see above).
If he's good enough getting to the first team is easier to achieve in USL. At LAFC getting through will take some time. USL is much more willing to sell players at a younger age even if they could be worth more if they hold on to them and let them develop.

Spot on...and you could see it a mile away. Toronto just unloaded two DP contracts, has money to burn with its ownership group, and probably wants to become relevant again ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The pecking order is starting to materialize in MLS. Teams with 💰💰 and cash trades helps this.
