Seriously, if you don't have a library card, get one. Libraries more than ever need support from people who don't want to ban books. Additionally, unlike Amazon, books are available for free in the library. š It is also a place that provides much-needed services for those with limited means.
I was reading an essay by Anne Lamott this morning, and this one sentence stood out and made me weep: "There should be one inviolable rule: Children are not shot or starved to death." Such a simple thing and so far out of reach.
President Trump is using our tax dollars to pay for his unwarranted deployment of military troops to D.C. in a blatant attempt to expand his power. Weāre fighting back.
My opinion is that the Republicans will let Trump ruin as much as he can, then Vance takes over and is hailed as a savior from Trump. He's just as bad, of course, but he can lie more convincingly.
They also cut funding for skilled nursing care, which includes nursing homes and therapy that people need after being in the hospital. And also funding for assisted living facilities.
He's right that people are in the streets. They are bearing signs that express their displeasure of Trump and his booklickers. And they are chanting and singing for democracy.
I love the label 'Elderly White Hippie.' Bring it on!
Having worked in a library system that formed a library district, I urge you to go for it. It made everything more stable, from staffing to money for collections. No downside that I could see.

I'm 74, and I had a terrible time getting a credit card when I was younger. With the way Republicans are going after women's and gay rights, we are liable to be heading back to those times, and it scares me.
I hope somebody stuck these in the trunk of their car to save them for when the nightmare is over.

You know, maybe we should approach protests like we did in the 60s. Put flowers in gun barrels. Give the police or whoever chocolate cookies. Sing encouraging songs. Make the fact that they are there look silly.
Accountability is out of the question while ICE agents feel emboldened to hide their face and identity. Tell your members of Congress to pass the VISIBLE Act to compel federal agents to wear visible ID and stop wearing non-medical face coverings.
This is both crazy and scary. It could escalate so quickly and further divide us.

As a retired librarian, this makes me furious. Libraries are supposed to be the guardians of liberty, not the new censors. Not suprised it's Idaho, but angry nontheless.
I would second this. Our town is too small for a library, but the librarian from the next town visits our independent/assisted living complex twice a week and brings books for us. She keeps us reading!

Well of course it does. An educated population is so much harder to control. And it strikes hardest against the poor, so two birds with one stone, so to speak.
All I know is that after being a fan of the show for 50 years, he's finally lost me. I can't really like it any more. It makes me very sad.
A bookmobile was my first library. I proudly held my first library card and scoured the shelves. I remember the librarian didn't censor my choice of books. Very happy memory!

Thatās why the work ahead of us has never been more important. The freedom to receive reproductive health care must be restored as a constitutional right. Congress needs to act and pass the Womenās Health Protection Act to codify Roe and protect the rights of all.

You should know you are on the wrong side of history when you attack libraries. It's always the "bad guys" who do such things. I hate that this is happening.

This intolerable attack on Harvardās independence and academic freedom is plainly government retaliation for Harvardās speech standing up for itself and the rule of law. America must rally to the side of Harvard and its students in court, in Congress and in our communities.

Trump is threatening to revoke Harvardās tax exempt status because the university refused to cave to his demands. Why is he so hell-bent on attacking universities? Because an educated and informed citizenry has always been the biggest threat to a dictator's power.
This makes me mad and sad and sick all at once. Libraries need everyone's support in this terrible political climate.
This is why I don't donate to the party, but only to individual democrats. They never seem to be doing much.
